hey guys (and gals if any) i just signed up to the forum. currently i dont have a Sea-Pro however am in negotiations with a guy for one. from the research ive done, its a 2000 190wa. boat is in great shape, however has been sitting for about a decade. somewhat covered, however recently the cover has been torn up due to wind/rain/sun etc.... there is not much information in way of these sea-pro boats around on the internet. the boat has a Merc 4.3 I/O with alpha 1 out drive and minn kota trolling motor. if its been sitting for almost 10 years, i was looking for information on what i should expect to get it sea worthy. im assuming upwards of 3k maybe? the hull and interior of the boat look amazing, engine is nice and clean. but i dont know if the guy winterized it or anything. even if he did, i know the gas needs to be taken out and the tank cleaned etc. anyone know what else i should look for? AND BIGGEST QUESTION. what i should offer for the boat? it comes with a nice trailer as well.

Welcome aboard! Pretty rare 190WA with I/O (offered from 1999-02003). Specs: rnr-marine.com/SEAPRO.shtml#190wa-specsRun it on a portable tank before buying - if not winterized you could need an engine ... very expensive. The Apha-1 is a good drive (check drive oil level before running).

Im really excited about this boat. It looks in amazing condition. I plan on taking it to the boat mechanic to have it thoroughly checked out. The guy still wants a premium for it. so question about the motor. Their just engines that crank the opposite way right? Ive rebuilt several chevy motors. How different is this motor than say a chevy 350 other than being a v6 vs a v8. Can someone mechanically inclined rebuild a mercruiser? Anyone know what this boat retailed for roughly?

Prior to purchase get a survey or at least have a marine mechanic check it out.

to answer your question regarding rebuilding, Yes just like a car engine as far as a rebuild, BUT you can't just go to the car parts store and buy an alternator, starter, etc. They are specially made for corrosion resistance and designed to minimize the chance of explosions. And like you mentioned some spin the other way to make sure you have to buy all the other high dollar marine version parts! I'd be surprised that anyone that kept that boat in great condition didn't winterize it properly, but I wouldn't buy it until it ran.

The 4.3L Mercruiser engine is a std rotation Chevy engine with Marine Carb (USG approved), Marine Fuel Pump (USCG approved), Marine Starter (USCG approved, sparkproof) and Marine ignition (USG approved, spark proof). The manifolds are probay due for replacement as they rust up - especially is salt water. Is it a closed or seawater cooled setup?

No, LH (CCW when viewed from flywheel end, CW when viewed from front of engine) is standard rotation on ALL I/O (sterndrive) engines and most other marine engines (counter-rotating engines are sometimes used in twin engine applications). This (LH) is the same rotation as automotive engines. Standard LH Rottion (CCW from Rear, CW from Front)
Easy to remember rotation with LH rule, where your thumb points towards the front of the engine on Left Hand and fingers curl in direction of rotation. Here is what the RH rotation hand looks like (I can't find a LH Rule hand image): RH rotation hand rule Here is Juan's LH rule:

Thanks T! Im going in a few to check if closed cooling or ses water cooled. Im hoping closed as I thing the manifold would survive better. Ill take some pics of the boat etc to share.

Unfortunately looks like im not going to become a sea-pro owner anytime soon. Guy wants 16k for the boat (he paid 14k) 12 years ago and its been sitting for a decade already. I offered him 7500 cash and he turned it down. Such is life I suppose.

That's why it's been sitting for soo long. Some guys think they have more than they do.

Sorry to hear you couldn't make the deal. He's asking way too much. Everyone else is asking close to $8000 for a 2000 walkaround, running and in good condition. I just bought a 2000 for $4200 plus the cost of a survey.
If he really wants to sell the boat, he'll come down.
