Another thread made me think about my first boat.. I actually have a picture of it.. Homemade wooden, 16 ft. flat bottom skiff with an 18 h.p. pull start Evinrude. (both were early 1960's models ).. I used that boat to set and pull over 50 lobster traps twice a week.. she would leak, and beat you to death in a small chop but it wouldn't sink.

12 ft. Sears aluminum jon boat. Had at least 300 rivets and although I would try to find and gluvit the leaky ones, there were always at least 10 that leaked. The good thing is that if it got too much water in it, you could always go to the bank and flip it over and buy another hour of boating bliss!

17' (16'+6") 1973 Boston Whaler Montauk with a 1982 Evinrude 90. Motor was the gray/silver with blue accents and looked just like R2D2 sitting back there. 2 aluminum fuel tanks under the reversible pilot's seat, a fishing chair up by the anchor well and a cajun-engineered trolling motor mount with a motorguide 35# thrust, foot-controlled freshwater motor. That boat would go anywhere I was brave enough to take it and would beat you up in a chop, but it never once let me down. Sold it after some jackass ran a stop sign and sideswiped it. Took the insurance money, sold the very-fixable remains and bought my Sea Pro. I like stories with happy endings.

1980 15' Eagle fish n ski made in St. Matthews SC. 1983 johnson 70 hp. Hand laid glass over plywood . Heavy little boat. Drafted much more than my sea pro. Had a tendency to sink on previous owners while tied to bank in Ashepoo river SC and heard the guy I sold it to sunk it as well. Was good to me while I had it though. Sold it when I had kids on the way.

Going back more years than I can remember (around 1980), I purchase a Wellcraft 185 Airslot with a Mercrusier 165 inboard/outboard. Had two 32 gallon saddle tanks. It was probably the best riding boat that I have ever had. Being a combination of a tri-hull while trolling or anchored it was very stable and when running it did have somewhat of a V in the transom. The hull tunneled the spray under the boat and out of the sides.

My first boat was a 12 ft Jonboat with a 3 hp Evinrude. My first bonafide boat was a 18ft Asroglass about a 1987 model with at 150 Mariner motor.

Mine was a 1988 Donzi Sportfish 23'. It had a 4.3L I/O. Was surprised Donzi made a boat with a V6 in it. This isn't mine, but mine was exactly the same. Bright yellow. We named it The Canary.

My very first boat was a 10' GW Invader with a 50 Mercury. The boat was rated for 20 horsepower but I was 16 years old and fearless.

SC, she was a good boat, our first and we loved her. the dwck draining is what finnished her in the end. she was left in the water all summer ang any rain would stay in the hull after the pump had drained the battery. eventually she was so waterlogged i had to move the swim ladder up 4 inches!!!!!. And yes in a chop staying dry was not an option.
