Hi Guys, yesterday my tilt trim started cutting power to the engine, once on plane when trimming up the power would be cut while pushing the switch up(tach would go blank also) and come back when released does anyone have an idea to the cause? Also on the way in yesterday I couldn't get on plane, motor would bog down at 3400 rpm, I had a full bait well as I did on the way out but was fine then, once I'd stopped for a few minutes and emptied the bait well It planed as normal, this also happened when I fist put her in the water a couple of weeks ago but thought it was me not being used to the bigger boat. seems there is a problem. 2007 220cc, Yamaha 200 hpdi

Thanks I'll check the connections, was thinking it might be an issue with the battery, Regarding the plane issue, it happened once with the bait wells empty 1/2 tank of gas and just me on board, 30 minutes later it planned just fine. I have trim tabs and did employ them but to no effect. I didn't mention the engine didn't sound right either, is it possible a week battery could cause lack of engine performance?? I was sat for an hour or two with radio on and fish finder on.

Thanks Southern Cross for your input, Engine was serviced before I purchased although don't know if that included all the filters( and these have many apparently). I seems an intermittent problem which we all love, very happy with the boat just need to sort this out.
I must ad this forum has been very informative on various subjects, I've learnt a lot since being here, Thank you

insert code here Gnr , I had a similar problem however it didn't kill the engine. Everytime I hit the trim the trim the tach safety beeper and lights would reset and beep. Come to find out there was a corroded 20 amp fuse holder in the accessory circuit wire near the battery I didn't know was there . When I hit trim it dropped voltage and beeped alarm . Not familiar with your motor but a voltage drop is most likely causing the problem . I would clean and tighten all the connections at battery and alternator circuit and see if that's it . The trim pump pulls a lot of current . My problem was just annoying till the source left me stranded in the middle of the lake when it got worse and motor wouldn't start .

Thanks acdaddy I did notice a serious drop on the volt meter when I trimmed up. I need to go through all the electrics when I take her out for the winter anyway. Think I'll install a second battery while I'm at it

On that note , there was a set of jumper cables in my boat when I bought it. Probably not a good sign but I cleaned them up and neatly stored them under the console just in case. I used them to jump power directly to starter motor bypassing key circuit and came back home. Glad I left them aboard. FYI .

I've got one of those new small jump boxes, it's small and light enough to throw in a bag. Never leave home without it.

One of those jump boxes is on my Christmas list. They are pretty handy. Like the others have said, I'd suspect a poor connection, either at the battery terminal, or in the circuit that powers the trim...

gonna go through it Saturday and give her a run . I'll put a new battery on also just to take that out of the equation.

Those jumper boxes are nice now that they have lithium batteries in them! I've still got a lead acid type but it's HEAVY!! they make em with inverters and USB charge ports too.

There is also a quick connect multipin under the console that could add to problem. I am going to make it thru all connections eventually as well. A voltage drop test will find the weak link with a lot of patience. Attach one lead of digital meter to battery and one directly to component connection at the end of the line. Power up switch and measure voltage drop. If it's excessive then move component lead back along the line till it's minimal then that's the weak link. Wire or switch or connection.

Just a quick update on the trim issue, found the multi pin connector which seems to connect the wires from the control assembly (trim switch and whatever the other wires are), pulled them apart and reconnected. Initially she trimmed just fine then went back normal. I did notice on the way in that when I throttled back some it trimmed normally again, Has to be something with the Yamaha harness in the console. she's coming home next weekend so the major wiring overhaul starts soon :-). Thanks for all your input guys.
