Good evening fellow forumers, Just wanted to give a quick intro of myself and let you guys know a little about what I am trying to do. Currently I am working a day job (Commerical Construction Estimator) and moonlighting as a Residential General Contractor. I am hoping to rat hole enough money to purchase a SV1900 or bigger sometime in late spring. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and we are blessed some local lakes that have healthy populations of Hybrid Striped Bass and Striped Bass. My hope is to quit relying on someone else to take me fishing and get into an appropriate boat. Several times this year we chased them in my bosses old ranger bass boat, but when the wind a waves pick-up, that boat is sketchy to fish out of. I like all kinds of fishing and frequent the coast of Texas (Matagorda & Surfside) and Florida (PCB, St. George) several times a year, and would like to drag a Sea Pro down occasionally for a little inshore and nearshore action.
I have been watching the classified on a dozen or two websites looking at what a fellow can get into for around $15-18K. I would really like to get into at least a 2004 or newer SV2100, since I have (2) young boys that will grow into this boat. I feel like a 21ft. boat should have at least a 150hp motor...however the internet is full of SV2100s with a 115hp on them. I know that a properly fit prop can make a huge difference but still question a 115hp. I want to wash these kids eyelids on a tube during the summers as well as out run a storm (they can pop up out of nowhere on our lakes too!) or find fish in many different locations when we only have an hour or two. Seems like the SV2100s with a decent 150hp or larger bump into the $20K+ range. I really like the idea of the f150 yamaha, especially when surfacing schools get spooky, but can I get into a boat that has a reliable newer f150 for the money I have? Last thing I want is to have a boat with problems all the time...been there, done that, and understand that all boats need maintenance and constant work, but I am not going to lay down my blood and sweat money in a problem. I would rather down size a step or two to get a nice clean boat. Might consider finding a clean boat and repowering with a new out of the crate motor, but then that does not leave much to buy a hull with.
What do you guys think? Am I smoking crack? I could spend more than my limit, but that is not wise with a growing family.
Anyhow, I am an avid offshore guy who was addicted to topwater popping and jigging for Tuna before the boys were born. My screen name comes from the other sites I frequent (360tuna, 2coolfishing, Ozarkanglers, ..............). BFTMASTER nickname was given to me when the everyone else was catching nice yellowfin and I was stacking blackfin like firewood.
Thanks for having a forum for the Boat that I have longed for many years. Damn sexy those Sea Pro lines!!
