Now this looks like a good idea, has anybody seen a set up like this before?. As you know I'm new to the bigger boat and I plan to get into the fishing scene. I would think this would be very usefull.

Thats a great idea. Especially with the holder for the wash down. You just added a project to my winter list

I saw it on some pictures of a boat in Australia, I might just make one too

Looks like it would get in the way. I would go the route I did and get a table that goes into a gunnel rod holder. When not using it it can be placed out of the way. This is the only pic I could find of it.

The cooler is directly underneath. It's definitely a cocktail table.

Yeah great place to mix some rum and cokes. the rod holder table looks good also and it holds a beer nicely :-)

I agree with Southshoreslayer.. It's too much in the way for my taste. I have one that goes in the rod holder so if I'm cutting bait and a rod goes off, I can jump on the ice chest and reel it in. By being on/over the gunnel, it's out of the way, and anything that drips off isn't on the floor. Now if you're specifically going to use it for cocktails, Heck yeah!

Thanks for all the input, I hadn't seen one before so was curious. Every day's a school day

I like it but I put mine on the back of my leaning seat. A proper cutting board is an essential element of a saltwater boat.

I was down at the boat looking at and designing this last night, that's how excited you got me grnphil!
Right now i have a flip up back rest on my transom, its flimsy and weak and i cannot stand it. Im going to take that off and install the rod holders then get the removable backrest like the earlier models have.
I'm going to make the height if the table lower than you see in the picture, basically I'm going to make it the same height as the table i use in the rod holder. I'm going to put a small bend in the pipe so it extends back more into the splash well and stays off the transom seat. Then I'm going to make the table (still have a ton of starboard left over from the redesign of the boat some may remember me talking about in July) and put a drain on it so everything on the table spills off the boat. Then a good knife holder and glove hook or clip on the other side of where i put holders for the wash down and fresh water.
This is going to be great for drift since everyone is always on the gunwale and the goal of keeping it low is so its out of the way when I'm anchor fishing and trolling; hopefully my theory translates into practicality!
This will also double as the cocktail station when we are out and anchored up, thinking I might even build a separate one specifically for entertainment, a bar and then a flip up shelf for when I'm using the grill in the rod holder.
Ill post up some pictures when I'm working on it over the winter.

Wow yolo sounds like your taking it to a new level, looking forward to seeing the finished product, good idea with the flimsy back rest I might junk mine too. However rigging something up on the back of it for a cutting board would reinforce it some.

Sounds like more work than it really is I'm getting really good with crafting the starboard (cutting, plastic welding ect.) so I should hopefully get this done really fast, less than a day. For the backrest I'm going to go with something like this www.boatoutfitters.com/Storage-Systems/TACO-Metals-Universal-Leaning-Post-Backrest-L10-1002-1-835.html?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=260-0054&gclid=CMGq-77K-MECFcTm7Aodr3UA9g (size will be different just used this pic because it has good pictures). I'm thinking that ill most likely (if I can get the parts) just use the old backrest, enforce withe a piece of starboard and put the poles on it. Reason I want to use this is I can drop it into the rod holders, i install for the table, when I'm not fishing and then take it out when I want to put the table in. The problem I am having with the current seat is the hinges for the backrest are not sturdy and the backrest falls back when someone is sitting in it.

Just realized another BIG benefit. When were drift fishing and have guys on both gunwales, whoever needs bait can go right to the table rather than having someone move around if they are in front of the table in the rod holder. Keep people from moving around when its choppy on the ocean.
Its going to keep my father from dropping knives in the water too!
Really looking forward, as I'm sure you can tell, to building this table thanks again for sharing the pictures!

That back rest looks good with the fold away legs, not had anyone use mine jet so I don't know how it holds up just know it's kinda flimsy. I'm going to go the table route also but later on as I've got a major rewire and maintenance project first.

That should be a great mod Yolo. If it comes out as good as your last project did, I'm sure I'll be envious! And it will likely pay for itself with the knives saved!

I like it but I put mine on the back of my leaning seat. A proper cutting board is an essential element of a saltwater boat. Real fishermen use artificial bait and don't need no stinking cutting board.
