Update. Received a new prop as recommended by Ken at Prop Gods. 14.5X17 powetech , 5400 rpm @ 40 mph. 16% slip , tired of this now so back to the 15 pitch and leave it alone I think.

I'd say I'm about an inch under the water with the AV plate, I talked with propgods yesterday per E Mail I expect he'll get back with me today. I think the extra half inch diameter has had a big effect on performance.

Wow, that's a big difference. I'd go back to where you were too.

Interesting, I decided to calculate my slip from the best days performance to see where I was. 16%. Running almost the identical prop 14-3/4 X 17p.

I was truly amazed that this prop had so much slip, I expected some but with a little performance increase. Between 5000 and 5500 rpm I saw a 2mph gain in speed, that's just pointless.

It's going back for a refund so all is not lost and the Admiral is happier :-)

What kind of hoist or jack are you guys using when you are raising or lowering your engine position? Outboards are pretty damn heavy!

That's a neat idea using the trailer jack. Thanks!

Quick update on the prop part of this thread. As I said the 17 pitch didn't improve things, I took a close look at the 15 pitch prop and found it's a Stihletto advantage prop. I've learned that these props generally perform like a prop with 1" to 2" more in pitch, so this 15 is working like a 16 or 17 pitch. It all makes sense now that the 17 pitch I bought didn't change anything.

Zero slip will equal zero movement.

Another way to look at slip is it is a percentage of in efficiency, a 15" pitch prop should move you 15" forward per revolution therefore with a 10% slip you would only move you 13.5". The less slip the more efficient. Think of it as traction.
