I've started the somewhat daunting task of removing my bottom paint (I'm to cheap to pay someone to do it ) and it's going quite well although I've had to stop as it's too cold. I'm using "smart strip" and then scraping it off, not going for a total restore of the hull as it's going to be painted over again.

Looks to be going well. How are you going to handle the areas on the trailer bunks?

I'll put it on blocks for that bit then probably hang it like I did last year for the repaint.

Thinking of using smart strip, but the website doesn't give details on how long to leave it set at different temperatures. Do you have more description off the bucket? My daytime temps are in the fifties now and itching to start on the boat. Any insight greatly appreciated.

Depending on how much paint is on there will seriously effect the results, the paint on the transom came of easy but the rest was not so great. I'll check the bucket tomorrow but I found 4 hours was enough before the soft paint began to dry back on( about 65-70 F). I ended up painting on the smart strip and then blasting it off with a pressure washer and a turbo tip, what was left I sanded off. Conclusion: if you have only a couple of coats of paint the stripper will work well, if it's "who know's" how many layers of hard paint it will help but not get it all off.

tod glad you reminded me , so sorry I've so busy finishing my boat bottom. It says , Dwell time : 3-24 hrs depending on thickness of paint, for best results surface temperature should be 50-95 deg F Probably not much help, I did a small test area and waited 4 hrs and found the thicker painted area need longer(6 hrs was the longest). Ended up getting as much as I could that way and sanding the rest

Thanks. That helps a lot. How far did one gallon get you? I have a 238cc and plan on buying five gallon strip paint.

I had to get another gallon and used half of that, but that included re applying on areas where the paint was thick. Hopefully yours won't be as bad as mine.

Well I finally got finished at the weekend, 2 coats of Pettit barrier coat and 2 coats of Pettit Ultima SR 60 bottom paint. Here's a few pics of the project. Paint is all off, looks weird all white. Barrier coat on Bottom paint on Finished and back on the trailer
