I have purchased a 2004 SV2100 and want to take out the oil tank from the rear compartment to do some cleaning and organizing of wire in that compartment. But no matter how i turn the tank it will not come out of the hatch opening ... any suggestions ?

Oil tank??? Is it an aftermarket external tank for your outboard, or something else like a reservoir for trim tabs or power pole? Pictures would help if you can get to it.

I could be wrong but I don't think any of the 2100s came with an oil tank. I'm guessing it had to be added after the cap was put on the boat so if it went in, I would think it will come out. Have you tried removing the rear hatch frame (not just opening the lid)? If it's located in the bilge area near the transom, you might be able to get it out by sliding it over to the battery compartment hatch and taking it out there.

here is what im looking at... as you can see the nastyness in there that i must clean the only way it fits is if i turn it on its side but the handle hits.. if i were to cut the handle off and remove both caps it will come out.. but the tank is vacuum operated so any leaks and the motor will not get oil

Have you tried tilting it to the side so the handle is over the lip and rotating it out that way, you'll probably need to remove the caps first. Just an idea and sorry if you've already tried that.

Seems to me that if that tank went in there, it should come out. Betcha when they put it in, it was empty. Have you tried emptying it then getting it out. it will probably have just enough give/bend if it's empty, being that it's plastic....just saying.

I can see now how that went in, I bet they had to force it in and due to the curvature of the lip it slid in. Of course with no thought about it ever coming out again, you may have to cut it and replace it.

How about getting the top corners of one end in the middle and then somehow bending the lip just enough to get the corners up, there's probably enough flex there and with some lube it might pull up.

Slowly pour a bucket or two of hot water over the tank to soften the plastic. You could use a heat gun/paint stripper or a blow drier to heat and soften also.

if it was me and all I wanted to do is clean it out, I'd probably just give up trying to remove the tank and buy a spray bottle and a couple of bottles of bilge cleaner. They make some stuff that will wash the gook out and make it look new again.
p.s. dcar, you have an instant message

So I tried heating the handle up with a heat gun to try and bend it and that did not work out had the gun on the handle long enough to start melting the outside and it still would not budge I'm going to try and force it out today and see if I can get the tank to give a little
