I have a 2006 196 cc with a 150 mercury optimax engine. I have smartcraft guages. My fuel Guage always shows 57 gallons which is full tank. I keep track of my fuel with the fuel used guage. Could this be a problem with the sending unit. If would does anyone know the location of the sending unit.
Thanks Kacz

Usually, when the sender goes, it goes E instead of F. I'm guessing its the gauge. There are exceptions. Put a ohm meter on the sending unit and see what it says.

Could be nothing more than a stuck float on the sending unit. Mine did that ..it was stuck and showed full all the time until I got down to about a 1/4 tank of fuel then the fuel gauge would drop.

Thanks for the responses. I will check the sending unit and maybe let the tank run down a bit more to see if the fuel Guage changes.

Until they invent a gauge that weighs your fuel tank you're only going to get a "good guess" from a float valve setup. Mine says it's full until it's half-full and then drops like a lead salami. The float and sending unit are brand new.
