I agree that is what it should be but...
- it is a 105 gallon tank - when I had the hard starting problem fixed the tech checked the pickup and said that the tank was almost empty - when I went to fill it I could only put in 45 gallons before gas started coming out the vent - I removed the vent and verified that was clear - I tried filling yesterday after being out and using 7 gallons. I removed the vent and pulled the hose as far up as possible 🤔🤔 I couldn’t get a full gallon in. - I then jacked the bow up to an exaggerated angle and tried again. Same result.
So, what I know is that the tank is less than 1/2 full and there is gas in the vent hose.
?? How would gas get in the vent hose?Overfilling? If that was the case, wouldn’t the hose empty back inti the tank as gas was used? ?? I suppose gas in the vent hose could be preventing air from passing? ?🤔🤔 I was thinking that if there was a kink in the hose then by pulling it up I may have made the problem worse. But, if there was a kink, how did I get it to take 45 gallons?

How can I check the actual level of gas in the tank? I’m thinking if I lower the bow and open up the access plate on the tank, if it is full then I should see gas almost up to the top. If it is less than 1/2 full I should see almost no gas. Does that sound like a reasonable test?

It's an odd one for sure , "?? How would gas get in the vent hose?Overfilling?" yes , while filling mine I will here the fuel start to come up the vent hose, that's how I know it's full. How about removing the fuel sender and taking a look inside.

How about removing the fuel sender and taking a look inside. That’s what I’m thinking. I am also going to remove the rod holder side panel to see if that gives me visibility to the hose. A little voice keeps whispering it’s gonna cost ya. “Car Talk” had a running joke that car mechanics charged so much to make their boat payments. Wonder what boat mechanic fees go for.

gpag, How are you gauging your fuel consumption? Are you relying on a fuel flow sensor?

When you blew in the fuel vent hose, was the gas cap off? When I fill mine, gas comes out the vent about 1/2 second before the pump kicks off. It's like a badge of fullness.

Freezerfiller, If his vent looks like the one you linked, I wouldn't think a mud dauber could get in there. You mentioned a pee trap. Is that a pee trap, or is it a ball check? If it's a ball check that would explain why he can't blow back through the vent. Never underestimate the power of the mud dauber.. never.

Gauging fuel usage on a Garmin GFS10 hooked up to my chartplotter. Cap off when I blew in the hose.

See if you can remove the fuel level sender and have a look inside the tank, or as you said run it till empty while carrying a 5 gallon tank with you.

Scrape some of that goop off the label and see how big your tank is. Looks like I see 191.21 liters which would be 50.5 gal.

Tough to get a good photo of the label but it definitely says 406 gallons, which is equal to 401.2 liters. Looking closely at the photos they do show Gallons 406 401.21 Ltrs

Ok, so we know it's got 106 gallon tank now. While you have it open, put an ohmmeter on that sending unit and see what it reads, then you can determine if it's bad or if your gauge is bad. If when you filled it up, or put that gallon in there, did gas come out the fuel fill hole and not the vent?

Gas came out the vent and the filler hole. Just vent if I went real slow.
What kind of screws are these? They look different from normal Phillips head but don’t look like hex or torque either. I don’t want to screw them up.

Pretty sure they are philips just a larger size required for better torque. looks a little offset so be careful, if your not comfortable stop and leave them alone.

I think they might be quadrex. I think I can get better access to the hidden screws from the bilge.

So, after fixing my shoot myself in the foot blown fuses problem I was able to get back to testing things. The fuel gauge is bad, which I expected. I haven’t tested the sender yet. I’ll do that after I get the new gauge tomorrow.
