Hi Guys: I asked this in one of my other posts but got no replys. So here goes again. My 2000 Sea Pro 190cc has an anchor compartment that stores the anchor, chain and rope. The anchor hangs vertically and nearly touches bottom. The anchor, about 6 ft. of chain and 150' of 1/2" rope (came with boat) were in the storage compartment "behind" the anchor compartment. I decided to put it where it belongs. We had to feed rope in locker (two man job), can't see pulling it and feeding "in circles" in locker to keep center open for "anchor and chain". Any idea how this can be done (short of adding a bow pulpit) Anybody else have this problem or was this model made just for "yankees"?

Printer - I probably have the same anchor box as you and have 12' of chain. The box is a little small, I agree. As I pull up anchor, I let the line and chain fall into the anchor box. I find no advantage to trying to do it neatly. Once I have all of the line and chain in the box and the anchor in one hand, I reach into the anchor box with my other hand and pull all of the line and chain back from the front of the box to get the anchor in. It's not as bad as it seems and it rarely ever gets tangled or knotted.

My anchor compartment is the same. 2001 190WA. I wondered why the original anchor was so small when I purchased the boat. I soon found out why. I had a Fortress anchor but the neck was way to long and the anchor stuck out of the comparment. I ended up buying a slip ring anchor 2 sizes larger than needed. It barely fits but the hatch still closes. We put the anchor in first and then what ever rope/chain we had out, we put infront of the anchor. So I don't think it is a Yankee thing. I live and bought the boat in Florida.

On my 2000 190 cc I use an 8 lb. Fluke anchor with 7' of galv. 5/16 chain and 150' of rode and it all fits in the anchor locker with no problem. rode goes in first (coiled) then chain, then set the anchor into the slots and done. Also have the bow dock line (15') and two other dock lines (15' ea.) coiled and in the anchor locker on top of the anchor. The 8 lb fluke anchor is designed to hold boats up to 24' in length. The key to an anchor of this type is the chain size and length. On my boat deploying and stowing the anchor is a one man operation, yes it is aggravating, but it can be done.

When I had a 180cc I had to do one of 2 things:
1st I had the anchor shaft cut but maybe 3 to 4 inches and added 4 to 5 ' of chain. That worked and never had a problem anchoring. It anchored too good. Lost that anchor.
2nd, I found a bracket that hung on the bow rail (they have 2 different types, get the one that hangs the anchor by the flute) and had some type of tie down at the anchor locker lid. This worked great!!! had the whole anchor locker full of rope and chain. Wish I could do this with the 206cc but I do not have a bow rail.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies. I did have to cut about 4" off shaft and 1/2" off each end of rod to fit in grove. I tried putting in rope first, then chain and couldn't get in anchor. INTUBAITED did you have 150' of 1/2" rope? I'll try your idea again. Don't want to hang the anchor or buy a new one right now. I'm spending a small fortune on the boat, but I want it perfect. Who says you can't teach and old dog new tricks. (example) On my old boat I had a full enclosure. When I was showing new owner (one half my age) I said it is murder trying to snap up front section because it is so tight. He said why don't you pull those quick release pins you have holding the back of the Bimini top. I think it will be a lot easier. After I pulled him back in the boat (don't know how he fell over) I thanked him.

I don't think I need 1/2" either, but , unfortunately it came with the boat.

Printer - I think mine is actually 3/8". I bought another 200' and cut it into 50' sections and spliced eyes into all of the ends. I keep those coiled up with a snap ring on one end of each so I can add 50' at a time to my anchor line when I need it. I would rather keep it all in the anchor box but there just isn't any room and I don't need the extra length all that often. I can't live without the 12' of chain though.

Intubaited: That a brilliant idea. I think I'll cut mine at 90' and carry the other 60' in another locker. I'm sure it will fit. We usually fish in 20 to 30 ft. of water. Sometimes we fish the New Jersey "artifical reefs" which are about 50' to 60' deep. No anchoring on the ones near me. Don't plan to go in any seas over 2'. Thanks for a great tip.

I just keep my rode in the locker since it is so small and I have a fortress and 300 feet of rode. I keep the anchor and chain in the front fish box with the rope trailing up into the anchor locker.

Probably the best eye-splicing video that I have in case anyone needs a reference...I've made good use of several old damaged lines and saved some $$. I taught my nephew how to do this on vacation one year and he did a bunch for me too...at a good wage I might add.

Thanks for the Video. I haven't done any splicing in a very long time. I definitely need a refresher course.
