Fed-Ex delivered the Speed Demon this morning. I put it on a 7' med/hvy rod and spooled it with 30lb braid to try it out. I've never been a big braid fan but since it's the diameter of 10lb mono, I thought I'd try it again so I threw it a few times in the pond. Well, it casts a country mile and is extremely smooth and fast on the retrieve but I just didn't like the braid so respooled it with 12lb mono. I think that's the right combination. I can throw it almost the full length of my pond without the first bird's nest. (1/2 acre pond). It's speed is going to take some getting used to and I'm going to have to learn to slow down my cranking speed or the fish might have a hard time catching up to the lure. I like it! Well worth the $69. price tag. Juan...Looks nice, does it have a line/drag clicker on it, are those bearings on the spool shaft? Yep, the bearings are on the spool shaft (unlike the nylon gear on the other reel). I don't know if that's a good thing or not but it makes the bearings easy to lube. The drag doesn't have a separate clicker switch but like all the spinning reels I've ever used, it clicks lightly when the drag is going out.

Got mine the other day. Very smooth and no slop in the anti-reverse. I didn't put any line on it yet, but played around with the drag system and that seems well done. The design of the bail will ensure that you don't get small braid caught up in there anywhere. I've had a problem with that with some older reels. My only beef, and it's minor, is there's not a real positive "click" when you open the bail. Other than that, I was pretty impressed. It will be a few months before I can test it on the water though.
Overall, I'd say these things are well worth the money. Thanks Juan for putting the info out there for all of us.

Do the bearings ride tight on the spool, I'm just thinking the it probably is pretty darn smooth. I just might have to purchase one and find out... On another note, going out into the everglades this morning, going with a buddy and we are taking his john boat, we're thinking about trying some flats fishing. They have been catching peacock bass in the everglades canals on live bait, probably try that too. I'll post pictures if I get lucky

Yes, the bearings are extremely tight under the spool. Almost too tight since it makes the spool a little hard to remove because the bearings are so snug. Good luck fishing today..keep us posted. I'm only up this early cuz I'm going too. Gonna try some stripes and hybrids in the river.

Gonna try some stripes and hybrids in the river. Any luck? Got there early and only fished for 3 hours. The river was dirty and running wide open and there were still logs and trees floating here and there but I managed 3 largemouth (all under 2 pounds and 5 hybrids (2 over 4). All released alive and well in the creek. Not a bad day!

We did OK, kept 7 bass, with the biggest being around 3 pounds. No pictures this time around. By the time we got back to my buddys house it was dark and I couldn't wait to jump in my truck and head home.Getting to the age where these all day trips are taking a toll, especially on that small john boat of his. Next time it will be in my boat... Looks like you did good Juan....

I feel your pain...I'll be doing one of those long days tomorrow and I'll be testing my KastKing reels all day. So far, these reels have been awesome and I love them. I'm not even using my expensive name brand reels since I bought these. Plan is to fish the bay in Apalachicola if the wind isn't blowing like it has the last three days might have to fish the Intercoastal just to get away from the wind. It will probably be dark when I get back, but my camera has a flash so I'll try to remember to take a picture. rofl

Well, I would have taken some pictures had I caught anything worth taking a picture of. Fished all day and caught a total of 6 fish. 2 short redfish and 4 trout and only one of those was a keeper. But both of my Kastking reels worked fine all day.

Nice to see some fish pics. I put the baitfeeder in my cart. Gonna see if it has any reviews before I pull the trigger.

I don't know anyone who's bought one of those yet but there are 153 reviews on Amazon and it currently has a 4.4 overall rating out of 5 stars with 86% of those being 4 and 5 stars.

Yeah, and that is what I wanted to do was go through those reviews. Many times these sellers will lump reviews for all of their products into one lump and you have to pick through them. This was not the case here. $10 cheaper on Amazon than Walmart. I placed my order this morning.

I may order one of those instead of another Sharky II 2000 I planned to order.

My sharky baitfeeder reel came in today and I have to admit it seems pretty darn nice. Both drags seem smooth. About the only things I can find wrong with it is that it has those ugly UGA colors. Thank god it came with a spare black spool. My plan is to pick up one of those new ugly sticks to mate it with. I did make a mistake and ordered some of their flourocoat line which said it is "100% fluorocarbon coated" I didn't catch the coated part. My braid hasn't delivered yet.

I think they're rather fetching in red and black, I might just order one to look like I know how to use it

I agree. I'm not crazy about the color either but for the price I'll overlook it. I bought a new Duckett rod to go with the Sharky II spinner. It's white and I'm not crazy about that either. I now have the ugliest fishing combo in the state but it sure works good. I caught a few more bass and hybrids with it this morning. A couple of the hybrids were big enough to take a little drag and it spooled off the reel like a $300 reel. I'm really pleased with the KastKings, (both the spinner and the baitcaster).
I've been using 100% Fluorocarbon P-line at around $20 for 250 yards for the past few months. I hate it.. way too much memory and costs more than it's worth IMO. I'm going back to plain ole mono. rofl

I'm with you on Flouro. I just buy it to use as leader because the memory is so bad. True flouro is almost invisible in the water, this "coated" stuff is not. I'll see if I can find time to post a demo.

I'll see if I can find time to post a demo. PLEASE DO! The supposed invisibility is what sold me on fluorocarbon years ago. I don't like tying on a leader so I just spool my reels with it, I used to use Berkley Vison 100% fluorocarbon at half the price of P-Line but got suckered in on P-Line by bass fishermen who claim it's the best line out there. I quickly discovered it isn't for me. I'd like to see proof that fluorocarbon really is invisible under water. I've been told that the red Cajun line is also invisible under water. I have some spooled but I'm not sure I believe that either.

The real magic is simply refractive index. Refractive index is a measure of how much light is "bent" when it passes from one refractive index to another. If you are obsessed, you can study Fresnell's equations, or Snell's Law, but in a general nutshell, light is bent more when you go through a greater difference in refractive index. In general, Air is 1.0 water is 1.33 if the air and water were perfectly clear, you would get the effect we all know. we can see the surface of water, or see air bubbles in it. For years, nylon (refractive index 1.55) was good fishing line, but because it has a different refractive index, we can see it very easily in air, which is good for knot tying, and can somewhat see it in the water because it still bends light as it passes from 1.33 to 1.5. One day someone in the fluorocarbon (refractive index 1.4)decided that is would bend light half as much as nylon. While it touts invisibility, it's actually visible, just harder to see in the air as it is in water. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow, but it is pretty obvious Flourocarbon does hide better. My mistakenly bought line is fluorocarbon coated. this means that the coating bends the light some, but the light gets bent the rest of the way once it hits the nylon center. So my 15# line might look like 12# nylon, but that all depends on the coating which I'm pretty sure is as thin as they can make it.

Oh, and the concept behind the red line is that since red line reflects red light, which is the first color to be filtered out as you go deeper in water because it is the first in the rainbow.. ROYGBIV. It actually shows gray at depth because it is not transparent. It is less visible than fluorescent blue, but I'd go transparent based on light science. I have caught plenty of fish on the Cajun line tho.
