His song 5:00 Somewhere has me wondering if it is 5:00 somewhere.
Everyday around 4:30 I start thinking about where it is 5:00

He really was genius. Who would have thought of glorifying the beach bum lifestyle and thinking it would catch on. I think it helps when you play in establishments that serve alcohol.

He got kicked out of my high school, so I am told. Well, He went to McGill back when it was boys only (pre -Toolen). He's listed as an alumni, so I think that was just a rumor. I don't doubt he got suspended. My cousin was in his class though, so I can find out.

It would be interesting to find out. Do they call him an "alumni" in the spirit of 'participation awards'? I'd heard one of he Brothers noticed he was stoned more often than not and told him he was no student and if he wanted to strum on his guitar all day that's what he should do. So he took off and hung out in Fairhope and started writing songs.
Could be an urban legend.

I know he went to Auburn for a semester, so he graduated from somewhere.

From Wikipedia...
Buffett was born on December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi,[1] and spent part of his childhood in Mobile, Alabama. He is the son of Mary Lorraine (née Peets) and James Delaney Buffett, Jr.[2][3] In grade school years, he attended St. Ignatius School, where he played the trombone in the school band. Buffett's grandfather was a sailor, therefore he was exposed to sailing as a child, which had an early effect on his life and later in his music. He later lived in Fairhope, Alabama. He graduated from McGill Institute for Boys in 1964. He began playing guitar during his first year at Auburn University before continuing his college years at Pearl River Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he received a bachelor's degree in history in 1969. He was initiated into the fraternity Kappa Sigma at the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduating from college, Buffett worked as a correspondent for Billboard magazine in Nashville, breaking the news of the separation of Flatt and Scruggs.

I’ll be damned. I went to St. Ignatius and McGill. Of course, he graduated before I was born.

I bet you're a square grouper fan too. Maybe, if I knew what that meant. It's a nickname given to bales of marijuana thrown overboard or out of airplanes... Jimmy Buffet made a song about it. I had it on an 8 track a long time ago but can't find it on the web now.

If I caught one I'd slice it open and keep a few fillets before I gave it to the Coast Guard. "I hit something with my prop and look what I found".

Back when I lived in the Keys, a bail would wash up on the beach now and then and make the news. I did see one offshore one time but there was also a boat not too far off and I wasn't about to take a chance of getting shot. Some of the guys I went to high school with would make some extra cash now and then by running out to the gulf stream at night, meeting a freighter and picking up a load and bringing it back to shore.. They would tell stories about how they dumped the load if a plane flew over or a boat headed in their direction. They made a small fortune but I think all of them also got caught and did some major time.
