I have an F150 that has "shifted hard" from day one... by "shifted hard", I mean I have to snap it into gear to keep it from sounding like it's grinding the gears... If I snap it into gear quickly, it it goes in gear with a pop, but if I try to slowly change gears, it makes a grinding sound... I've seen a lot of motors do exactly the same thing and I've seen others that slipped right into gear without a sound...
My question is: Are there synconizers or gears in an F150 that can be adjusted to eliminate the hard shifting?

No Adjustment, but it could be the prop you are using. I had a heavy Stainless prop that did it all the time, I switched to the Yamaha recommended Reliance prop and most of the harshness went away.

Have you had the water pump changed out recently? If you don't "time" the shifter linkage correctly when reinstalling the lower unit (or it gets bumped slightly) it can do what your describing.

Thanks kris, I'll check into both... I hadn't considered the prop and I do have an aluminum spare I can try out to see if it makes a difference.
No, SM, I haven't had the water pump changed recently... last change was about 200 hours ago, so it's about time to do it again just as routine maintenance... I'll tell em to check on that.. Thanks..

Juan... I am no mechanic... But from what I hear from other boaters that went from a Yamaha 115 4 stoke to the 150 4 stroke... that's just how the 150's are... From what I hear, there's no fix for that... it is what it is... If you do find a cure... let me know. I would love to hear it... I have a 115 4 stroke and love it!!! Especially coming from a late 80's evinrude 50HP 2 stoke... ;D
