Has any one stuck one on their verado yet? I know when I first purchased mine 3 years ago, they said not to put one on, which I thought was rediculous.....but now they are telling us to do it with all the problems with water in the tanks from the ethanol.

Yes, and get the one with the clear plastic bowl with drain. Racor makes them in 30, 10 and now 2 micron. Use 10 minimum, and I'm using a series of 10 and 2 for fuel polishing, but not on the boat yet. I think 2Micron is the way to go, to keep junk out of the injevtors (I have carbed Yammie 200) the injectors (when they plug, they have to be sent off for cleaning - something like $10-15/each).

Thought about it but haven't done it. It's getting hard to find gas without ethanol anywhere away from the dock. I have been religious about adding the Stabil Ethanol treatment. So far so good.

I wasn't aware that Mercury is recommending them now. I'll be adding one soon then cause I like to have one on any boat I own.

Not sure about Mercury, buy Yamaha now says you need to use a 10-MirconFuel/Water separator filter setup
I talked to Parker-racor, and they said the 2micron will separate out more of the phases separated water/ethanol stuff. The Yamaha 4-strokes have a filter(s?) inside the engine that are actually 1micron, but they don;t separate water there - just try to pickup dirt particile, so you need a fuel/water separator befor ethe engine.
On outboards, you can use the model with the clear plastic (Racor is light blue) bowl (so you can see the separated fuel/water) and a drain to get rid of this water. Inboards need a metal bowl model per USCG rules.

ttopless.....I hear ya loud and clear, the plastic bowl is the only way to go....and I would not recommend any other brand but the racor. I'm very familiar with the set ups and have always put them on my boats.....but what I'm wondering is if any one knew which fuel flow to go with the Verado.... they've got a 1/4" or 1/2" hose model......and 60, 90, 125 gallons/hr ....etc..... I even did a search on the verado owners site and came up with nothing..... maybe I'll just call

thanks for the feedback Ttopless.... I guess there's a few options that work out just fine. I had seen those offered on the verado site, but they didn't have any complete set ups, but all the individual components you could purchase and put together....
I did contact Parker and came back from lunch w/ an answer awaiting....one of the tech's over there told me the 320r-rac-01 model, which is a 10 micron filter @ 60 gph. I actually found them online for about 76 bucks delivered to my doorstep.....that's a great deal I believe. I may pick up that 2 micron filter also though....
thanks again for the help.....

The Sierra Stainless filter bracket is the best ... will never corrode.
How do you like that Verado? They're not popular here - but I like them. Used to own Mercs - including an old 115 Merc L-6 "Tower of Power" back in the day!

I got busy and still haven't ordered it, so i may check into that......same exact screw threads as the racor filters huh? B/c I hear ya.....sooner or later those dang racor's lose that paint and start corroding.... Verado......it's grown on me. I'm a yammy man, I aint gonna lie (here's one for ya Simple man, "Wanna get there fast....get a merc. Wanna get back.....get a Yammy" But when I bought this boat Brunswick pretty forced you to run with the Merc's on the Sea Pro's......Whalers....etc.... My dealer did not give me an option, but does sell yamaha's on other boats there. I also got a great deal on it b/c some one had ordered it with the 175, instead of a standard 150 or bumpin' it up to the 200 or 225 which most people would do. Any way he ordered the rig with the tourny package and all sorts of other things on the boat....most i use, some I never will....but his credit ended up being bad so they were stuck with a special order. He knocked a LARGE chunk off the price and i was looking to buy a new one b/c my other bayboat had been stolen......So it was the classic being at the right place at the right time type deal. The Verado runs hard son....as hard as the opti's in my opinion....take off, mid....and top end. It's been in the shop other than serv. maintenance 3 times in 3 years.... Once for a beeping noise that didn't really do anything as far as kicking in 'safe mode'......but just beeped (dang mercs and their beeps!) Once for some kind of recall that never even affected me, but i got it done before it ever did, just in case......and once for lacking power.....that was for the supercharger had to have a hose replaced. Never stranded me (knock on wood) or not cranked....so I can't complain too much I guess. Gas mileage is great as long as you are not WOT, but I'm not one of those guys who pegs it all the time so i don't have to worry about that....

Like it - own 5 boat snow, but If I had to own one, it would be about 23' with an Optimax (or 2) ...
The Sierra SS bracket isn't cheap, but it will NOT corrode like ALL other fuel filter brackets. You'll appreciate it ....
cheers ....

I wasn't aware that Mercury is recommending them now. I'll be adding one soon then cause I like to have one on any boat I own. Hi Simple Man, Is your Mercury a Verado? And did you proceed with installation of a Racor combined fuel filter and water separator? And finally, how is it? I've recently checked in the Merc catalog and a fuel filter with water separator specially designed for Verados is 5 times the price of Racor!!! Hope to read soon on that!

Yes my boat does have a Verado on it but Sadly, I have not installed a water sep. filter yet. 2012 was a very busy year for me and fishing/boating suffered greatly. I am either going to rectify that situation this year or sell my boat! You have to run a boat and run it often or problems are in your future! I don't know if you have found them yet or not but be sure and check out the Verado owners website. It is the place for all things Verado. www.veradoclub.com/smf/index.phpEnjoy your Vrod! Remember rule one of owning a Verado, they like to run....
