Hey all, ....... ..... I'm going to be descriptive so forgive me, hope y'all can add .02 Have a new issue some of you might remember. The mechanic had the boat this past week fixing problems I thought would be fixed... NOT! Previous to giving it to mechanic I had an overheating steady alarm go off as well as I was concerned with the pee hole not spiting out water right away after start up. Even idling, water would take about a minute! to start coming out. A scary minute at that. SO mechanic and I thought it was the impeller. So this past week I had a new impeller kit put on and the lower unit oil changed. Sundays morning report (this morning): We started right up, water slowed out of pee hole as usual, maybe a little better... Took off for about 2 miles nicely with smiles, THEN, the dang alarm goes off again, we slowed down, put it in idle, checked engine, NO water was coming out of pee hole, engine smoked a bit, we shut engine completely off. We waited about 5 mins, alarm was no longer on, started the boat, verified pee hole water flow, ran it, alarm went off again. We limped back to the boat ramp doing this process over and over but at a much slower speed. Simpleman or Juan I remember you guys saying something about if the water coming out is too hot to touch then.....?not a good sign right? It was burning hot!.... So we are taking it again to mechanic early Monday morning and playing hardball....... (03 200HP mercury 2stroke carb) Thoughts?

If you hook it to a hose with muffs (strong hose pressure), does it pee?
Did you run the engine WITHOUT water, EVER? You MUST run with water, or the impeller blades will be ruined and rip apart.
DO you have a washout hose fitting on the motor? This is fine to wash the engine out some, but you cannot run the engine with the hose hooked to it, as the impeller doesn't get wet.
You may have pieces of the worn off rubber impeller blades in the system (worn off by running w/ no water or left by mechanic) - must get cleaned out.

Even for washdown I always use earmuffs with strong water pressure and it still takes some time to come out.
As far as the washout hose fitting, I am sure I don't have one. If left impeller blades by mechanic....hmm..at this point all I can hope for is thats the case. Just hope he doesnt give me the rigamarole later about a $ part I need replaced.

Was it pissing while running? (Sometimes a Merc will stop pissing for a few seconds after you back out of it hard).
Did you just change the impeller or the housing as well? I know alot of people just change the impeller out but I have seen housings go bad as well. For a few more bucks, change them both out. Bottom line, if it's getting hot it's not getting enough water volume or pressure. The cause could be a host of things but I would start my search around the water pump itself since you just had it worked on (i.e. missing keystock on impeller, tube not connected properly, housing or impeller damage, etc.)

It was pissing while running however it was not in neutral during the overheat phase. Just took it in, he took the lower unit of while I was there and took it to the back, came out and said that the impeller gasket they put on had a slight "gap" and some air could have been getting into the it which may have caused the overheating issue. I still wasn't fully comprehending but mostly I understood it to be there fault. Ive arranged for them to run it on the water for a good 20mins to see if that fixed it.
Ill keep ya updated on the exact issue if its been solved just in case this happens to someone else.

The gasket goes between the impeller housing and the lower unit itself. If it was not sealing then it would cause you to lose water pressure/volume (pump would cavitate). Hopefully this will fix your problem and yes, It would be the responsabilty of whoever changed the impeller to ensure the gasket was installed properly.

Juts hope you didn't damage the motor - might check compression now that this is "over".

FINALLY proud to say the boat runs great.
Impeller and overheating issue solved. It had a gap in the gasket, now it pumps water like a dream.
Thanks guys.
