I've got an '02 Yam 150 Carb. 2-stroke. When I flush it with the ears I notice that the discharge water from the pee nozzle and the weep holes in the lower unit is warm. One might even say hot. It's got a pee stream coming out that any man would be proud of and my water pressure gauge registers 5 at idle and 15+ at 3500 rpms. Is this normal? I've owned an Evinrude and an Optimax and never noticed warm/hot water before. I am paranoid because my Optimax threw a rod after some inconsistent oil/temp alarm issues. My mechanic says it was to be expected since Optimaxes are known as Opti-Pops in the trade because they blow so frequently. I don't want to repeat that experience.

Only reasons you would get hot water coming out are:
1. Very hot day 2. Using hot water 3. Recently ran the engine and it is hot
By the way, you need to fire your mechanic. Opti's are considered the most reliable engines ever built. Many are still in use after many thousands of hours and no major repairs.

I wouldn't be turning 3500 rpms on the muffs.

Dangerous: I did. I can't comment on the overall reliability of the Optimax brand and I'm sure that there are thousands of good ones out there. Mine blew for no apparent reason and it was expensive to replace. My Yamaha will be maintained by the dealer.
Weaver: No 3500 on muffs. Those were "on the water" statistics to illustrate the fact that there's sufficient water moving through the system (as far as I know). I'm curious to know if it is sufficient and the warm discharge is normal or if it is not sufficient and the discharge is abnormal.

985crabs, I have the same year engine and i usually let it run til the discharge water gets warm. I have heard the engine needs to run hot enough to open the thermostats to let the flush water get all the way through? I trailer my boat and hour and a half home so it's always cold when I get home.
I recently gave up on muffs and went to Barrel flushing. Once it warms up I shut it down and run Salt X thru the Flushing port.

Seagristle, I'm just flushing through the port now too. I do like to run it on the muffs for 5 minutes or so before I go out. Don't ever want to go an hour and a half to the launch at some insane hour in the morning just to find out it won't start.
