trailer tires for those of you north of Atlanta. ;D Seriously... One of the four on the trailer has a plug in it and the spare is dry rotted, so I need two new replacement "tars",,.. All 5 are bias type and I'm having a hard time finding bias tires....I know you're not supposed to mix radial and bias tires on a car..does the same rule apply to boat trailers?

PER UNIROYAL...for what its worth
If you must use radial tires with bias-ply tires on the same vehicle (not recommended), the radial tires must always be placed on the rear axle. Never mix radial and bias-ply tires on the same axle.

How old are the tires? If they are over 4 years old, by 4 new ones and keep the best looking one for your spare. Tire guys are telling me the "rubber" they are using now is not the same quality that it used to be. 6 years is about all you can expect to get out of tires now a days before dry rotting becomes an issue.

Make sure you get "trailer service" tires......... You might try a camper or RV dealer. Up here in the North the "Town Fair Tire" chain usually has the best prices around.

I just bought 4 - 15" trailer tires for a Utility trailer I own. I think they were 89 bucks a pop! They won't be hard to find where your at. Most any decent tire store is going to carry them. Like Gary says...get trailer tires. I had car tires on that utility trailer and they didn't last long and the weight sent them "a poppin" when they got some age.

The sidewall construction and tread thickness is very different between trailer service and car/light duty truck tires because of the stresses on the side wall and "scuffing factor" on trailer tire treads. If you are towing four miles at 30 MPH, then what the hell mix & matchem any way you want. But if you do ANY distance towing especially at highway speeds do it right or risk dumping the trailer & boat.

The tires on there now are at least 5 years old and only the spare is dry rotted... I guess because it sits on the trailer facing up and gets a lot of sun... They're bias 6 ply trailer tires and are rated at 1300 lbs load.... I want a new one to replace the spare and the tire that has a plug in it, so I wanted 2 bias tires...but so far, all I've found are radials in the right size.... I still have a couple more places to check.

And you had the nerve to call me tight!... They tell me sun light and contact with the ground is what causes them to dry rot FWIW. You park your boat on dirt and the sun bakes them so....... Whiskey...Tango...Foxtrot...you must have "special tires" Lol Post up the size and I will call around Mobile for you. I'm coming up there to hunt next week so I could bring them to New Hope(between Troy and Enterprise) if you desire.

I'm a dumbazz... I took one tire and rim to get ot replaced this morning and after getting back home was about to mount it on the trailer when discovered that the three tires on the trailer are radials and I just bought a bias tire... seems the spare was the only bias tire and guess which one I got the size off of? So now I've got radials on the trailer and a bias tire for a spare.

How did you wind up mixed matched like that to start with?

Juan, Just to keep this going a little bit and further complicate things..... Do you carry a spare prop ?

I do keep a spare prop... but I "keep" it in the barn and not in the boat where it probably should be.. I figure if I break a prop I'm just going to call Sea Tow to tow me to the ramp since my day will be over anyway.
