Took our CC206 out yesteday to see if we could connect with some grouper. I've not taken it very far out before, because I have been building trust in both the boat and the Merc since we bought it several months ago. It was a windy day with 4 to 6 seas, and we ran 23 miles out to a spot my buddy wanted to fish. On the way back, we trolled for a while and weren't on plane for about a third of the way. To my surprise, we got 3.26 miles per gallon.
I was expecting less, and since my buddy was splitting fuel costs, we were both pleasantly surprised. Now, if we could get the grouper to cooperate...

I've got an Opti 150, 2001. That was the year they were supposed to have had issues. This motor is the most fuel efficient I've EVER owned. We've cranked at 6 am for kingfish tournys and not shut it down until 5:30 or 6 and folks at the dock could not believe how little fuel we used. BTW, I use ONLY Mercury Opti Oil and Only marine gasoline. No problems. Great engine.

I am thinking about putting one on my 1975 Mako 171 Angler. Looking for one about 4 to 5 years old. Hard to find and even harder to find is one with a 20" shaft.

Thanks Ross, but I can not go over 115 hp on the Mako. The weight would sink the transom.

If you look at the top line on the Smartcraft gauge, you'll see 5.0 M/G. Once I let the gauge decide on trim and RPM range, it kept getting better as long as I kept it in the "Optimized" range. Great addition to the Optimax 150...

Did not want to steal the thread.
But my 1997 Johnson 115 is a couple pounds under 300 and I think the 4 strokes are right at 400. Guess I need to get a 100 pounds of sand and stick in the back of the boat to see what the extra weight does.
