I've changed my own oil when the last two services came due and it's a messy event... I was wondering what I'm doing wrong or if there's a better way.... I don't know about others but the oil drain plug on a Yammie F150 is on the motor's lower unit and when I take the plug out to drain the oil, it runs down and all over the lower unit and prop... probably a quart or more of the 5.2 quarts it holds ends up on the ground... There's got to be a neater way.... How do you do it without spilling oil everywhere?

Just tilt your motor over to one side and let it drain... ;D Mercury makes a special built funnel that pops on my Verado and keeps the mess down. Maybe Yamaha makes one for the F150?...

If Yamaha makes an oil drain funnel, I haven't heard of it but I sure do need one before the EPA gets me for poluting the soil.

Juan,
I just did mine for the first time last weekend. Here is what I did....
I went to the local ACE hardware store and bought five feet of their clear flexible tubing with an outer diameter of 7/8 inches (99 cents/ft). This fits snuggly into the rubber boot that conceals the 14mm drain plug bolt. Since the tubing was stored on a spool at the store it was curled; try to work as much of the curl out as possible so it is easier to handle. Tilt the motor all the way up, remove the drain plug bolt and insert an end of the tubing into the rubber boot. No oil will drain out in the up position. Hold other end of tubing into your drain pan and lower engine to full down position and let it drain. As it drains, remove the filler tube cap and pack some paper towels around the oil filter. Remove oil filter and expect to lose a little oil from the filter into the paper towels. Rock the engine with the trim/tilt button a little to get all the oil out. Once it has completely drained, remove tube and replace the drain plug bolt. You might dribble a few drops here so have a couple paper towels at the ready. Lube the new oil filter, install filter remove paper towels. Refill with oil, my 2005, F150 takes 5.5 quarts. That's it, I only lost a few drops and it took about three beers.

Weaverama Thanks Weaverama, Why didn't I think of that? that sounds like a plan....right down to the beers. I'll be picking up a section of hose before I try it again..
