I have a small problem with my trailor plug! My trailor is equipped with surge brakes and is 5 wire . My truck is 7 wire! So I have to have a 5 to 7 plug. I followed the wireing picture on the truck side plug cap. My problem is that when I plug up to the truck all my lights work as they should, but the only way to trun them off is to unplug from the truck. I don't even have to have the truck key truned on for them to work. I plug in and the lights are on. This isn't right is it? Should the truck side, be hot all the time? Not a lot if problem because when I park the truck and trailor I always take the 7 wire plug off and lock it up to keep it from being stolen. Also I don't have to have the truck lights turned on for the plug to be hot.

It sounds like the 7 wire socket on your truck has one wire that is always hot, even with the ignition off, and the trailer lights are connecting to it rather than the proper wires. You need to get a 12 volt test light (or multimeter) and start testing wires.
