I was taking a good look at my trailer winch and strap hook and both are rusted. Not really sure how they got so rusted as I spray them with lubricant after every washing of the boat, but needless to say they have.
I have seen some boats with stainless steel winches and was curious what some of you are using and if they are worth they extra cost (a quick search shows them in the $200 range where a regular winch looks to be in the $60 range)?
Thoughts?

Been using my galvanized winch for 5 years without issue. I do us my boat in fresh water most of the time though.

Galvanized here too and used manly in saltwater...all I've ever done was squirt a little WD-40 on mine from time to time,,,, and you could buy 3 or 4 galvanized for the price of one stainless..
Do as I do....leave your winch at home and in the kitchen. ;D

Rusted out a few galvanized winches, looked at the Stainless, and will probably go that route next time. Costs more, but its a one-time deal which lasts forever and avoids aggravation.
You don't want your winch to break down when shes working!
