Interesting test performed by Mercury Marine. Report is on the www.nrel.gov (National Renewable Energies Libarary) site: High Ethanol Fuel Endurance: A Study of the Effects of Running Gasoline with 15% Ethanol Concentration in Current Production Outboard Four-Stroke Engines and Conventional Two-Stroke Outboard Marine Engines June 16, 2010 – June 30, 2011 David Hilbert Mercury Marine Fond du Lac, Wisconsin All engines ran hotter, the 200hp 2-stroke blew a rod before it completed the test, the Verado 300hp burned up 3 exhaust valves, and the 4.3L sterndrive experienced 4.5% increased fuel consumption. "Conclusions and Recommendations: Several issues were discovered in this study from an exhaust emissions and an engine durability standpoint ..." www.nrel.gov/docs/fy12osti/52909.pdf
