Well, I lost my lower crank seal on my Yammi 20 miles out, seems as if this is a known problem and they have since fixed. Ran all the way in with little to no oil and fried my motor, still ran ok, but made some noise. Yamaha is replacing the powerhead under warranty at 500 hrs and 3.5 years. Woo Hoo. New motor break-in again. At least all the updates will have been done.

Dang krisis I hate to hear that. Did you have any indication of loss of pressure (warning horn, alarm, oil slick)? Not that you could have done much about it if you were 20 miles out just curious. Testimony to the motor that it got you home and that Yamaha is standing behind it. Guess you will be land locked for awhile!

Saw a slick behind the boat when we stopped to deep drop, so I decided to run in, alarm did go off and kept rpm around 2500 for the ride in. Should get back next week by Friday. Could not add oil due to if I removed cowl I would have dunked the motor in the swells. All is well.

krisis7, What a bummer!!! I always wondered what I would do when I'm out like that and if I knew that I wasn't getting oil I have a fix for that as I carry a gallon of oil and would dump it in the fuel tank to try to save it. Thank God that if all else fails the Coast Guard is there for a backup if needed. It must have been cooling as there is the shutoff switch if it gets hot. Did you get any warning at all? Just curious!!! <`)>((((< ED

The only problem with adding oil to the fuel is that it will never reach the main or cam bearings. I damaged the cam coming in, but it still ran smooth, just a little knock under load at 3000 rpm after oil was topped off. Still ran out to 6000 rpm when full of oil, no sign of failing. At least I have Sea Tow.

... I carry a gallon of oil and would dump it in the fuel tank to try to save it. Wouldn't have helped none on a 4 cycle motor like the F150 Yamaha. It is a good idea to carry extra engine oil on board though so that you can add to while running if you have a problem such as this. Sounds like krisis could not add any due the sea state at the time. Thank God that if all else fails the Coast Guard is there for a backup if needed. Coast Guard will not come get you unless there is a life threatening emergency. They will call Sea Tow for you! IMHO, Sea Tow is a good $150 insurance policy if you venture offshore at all. One tow from them with out membership will pay your dues for a LONG time!
