Water temp gauge is not working on my 2005 Yamaha 150. Disconnected the wires to sending unit and gauge moves to hot when the blue wire is grounded to the motor. Assume gauge is ok. Replaced sending unit, still no reading. Replaced wire from sending unit to gauge, still not working. Did not use teflon tape on sending unit, but still wondering if I may have a ground problem. Advice anyone?

For what's it worth I had the same problem on a Merc engine, did the same checks and replacements that you did, and had the same results (or lack thereof). I wish that I could be of help but I sold the engine without ever figuring out why the guage didn't work. I just assumed the engine ran too cool to show on the guage although that is most likely not a good assumption. I never went so far as rig up a ground wire to the sensor and place it in boiling water or anything. So, sorry that I couldn't be of help.
