Have an '02 2 stroke that I have flushed with a combination of muffs and/or flush fitting. This summer I switched to barrel flushing. Took it to a marina yesterday and ran her around, engine had a nice strong stream. When I hooked up the flush hose I got NO stream at all. The hose was kind of a small diameter (like one of those coiled washdown hoses) so I switched to garden-type hose and got a little stream but very weak. I raised the lower unit and could see plenty of water coming out of the ports, so I'm wondering if the hose might have a leak inside the lower unit. Anybody ever had this problem?

You are experiencing why running on muffs is discouraged. They usually have some flow but not nearly as much as when the lower unit is submerged. It doesn't take high pressure on hose but do make sure the muffs are fitting properly and getting a good seal. Your hose may be too small, that could be an issue as well. Try another.

Yep that's why I switched. At home my usual practice is to barrel flush to warm the engine then I shut it off and use the hose flush fitting to run Salt X or Salt Away thru the head if I've been in salt. But now I'm at a boatel and using the hoses they have so I'm not sure if it's their water pressure or something is amiss with my flushing system.

I have a Merc Saltwater engine that has a flushing hose and their manual says that running it on the hose (without the muffs) for two minutes gives it a good flush. We had quite a discussion here on that issue until Capt Ross found the answer in a factory manual. However, that is a Merc and not a Yammy, so I'm not sure that alone is a satisfactory rinse on your engine (or if you even have that type of flush system built in).
