I purchased a 2005 238CC with its original aluminum tandem trailer a while back, and with the purchase was given 4 new double eye leaf springs for the trailer because the existing ones were rusty. With the old springs, the top of the shackles for the front pair of springs (at the equalizer) seemed very close to touching the bottom of the trailer frame rail and the equalizer was kicked up at the front springs on both sides of the trailer. I figured the rusty springs were weak and went ahead and replaced them with the new ones that came with the boat, i made sure they were the same length and check all the pivot points to make sure there was no binding...Now, with the new springs in place the problem is even worse, The front pair are way too close to the frame rail where they attach at the equalizer and of course the equalizer is far from level. I am thinking this is still a spring issue and the ones I was given may be the wrong weight capacity for the boat/trailer. The equalizers do almost level out when there is no boat on the trailer... I'm thinking about going up to a 4 or five leaf spring rated for 3500 per axle,... Am I on the right track here?

Helper springs would be one less expensive solution. Did you install the new ones backwards maybe? Do you launch in salty water? If so I would lose the leaf springs altogether and go with torsion axles before I would sink a lot of money into new sprigs. You and the next guy who owns the boat won't have to worry about it anymore then.

Sounds like the springs are the wrong load capacity. I would contact the trailer manufacturer with the trailer model number along with the weight of your boat and get the correct springs. Some people think that all four leaf springs are the same load capacity - not true..
OR yes they could have been installed incorrectly..
