Hey Guys, Having trouble with my outboard losing prime. Runs great at first but after almost every stop yesterday wouldn't plane and sluggish. A couple of squeezes of the primer bulb then would run fine again until next stop. Any Ideas? I checked out the bulb and didn't see any cracks or leaks. Low pressure fuel pump going bad?

have same motor as you mine is a 2006 efi. do you have a water separator or just your fuel line with primer bulb.if you are running fuel with ethanol with out a separator it will chew an older fuel line up and also effect the flow rate through the primer bulb at normal operating fuel pressure, but squeezing the bulb increases that pressure and flow is restored. just my thoughts.

Here's my top 4
1. leak in the fuel line, allowing air to be drawn in/check hose clamps 2. replace bulb. They are cheap and always suspect. 3. fuel pump 4. if bulb is collapsing, replace bulb, intake screen or filter clogged

No fuel/water separater but only use marine fuel. Bulb doesn't collapse but definitely not firm when it happens. Took it out yesterday and ran like a champ. No problems. I'm sure it will happen again though. Thanks for the input, I'll let you know if I get it figured out. Again I really appreciate the info

Another problem that can lead to bulb collapse is antisiphon valve sticking. I'd be willing to bet it's the bulb tho.

Replaced fuel line and bulb. Used new Mercury bulb and mounted vertically. Problem seems to be solved. Thanks for all the info
