I've always been told that you can damage a battery by setting it on the ground or on concrete... All my life, I've ALWAYS set a piece of wood or a section of rubber mat under any battery I removed from my boat or vehicles.. I always had my doubts, but still believed it to be true.. well, I just Googled it.. and it's NOT!! The truth about batteriesJust thought I'd pass this along in case I wasn't the only one! google

LOL my father is a good example of why Rumors like these exist.
One time we gave my cousin a battery to bring home to put in the car that is dead in the garage next time we went up there. We'll in the meantime one of their friends put the batter in and the car does not start, makes no sense to us as the battery just arrived at the shop from the interstate truck.
So, we go up there together, walk into the garage, try starting the car and nothing, car is dead with he new battery still in there. Check connections all good and realize the batter is wet in the garage?!?!?! How?
My dad asks where he put the battery when he brought it home, cousin points, we see wet spot where the battery was. When my cousin brought the battery home he put it in the garage on the side!!!!!!!!!! Now he knows NOTHING about mechanics so this was not too surprising.
So my dad, rather than teaching him, says "you cannot put car batteries on the ground!!! You have to keep the refrigerated until they go into the car or they go bad!!!. Come down later and get a new one.”
So, we leave. He comes to the shop, gets the new battery and brings it home. About an hour later the phone rings at the shop and I pick it up. It’s my aunt on the other side of the phone and she asks “Ummmm do you know why there is a car battery in the refrigerator.”
He actually believed us when we told him that!!!!!!!!!!!

Sc, I see the problem after looking at that pict! My father told me never to wear red shoes in the boat or pitch a tent behind it. Said it causes corrosion !! Ha ha! ?

Juan, I have heard that from people and have also put battery up on shelf away from concrete floor. Thinking about it, when getting a new battery from parts store, they are on racks off floor or on wooden pallets. I don't believe everything I see on internet. May be true but I can't make myself set one on the ground!

I have a battery in the garage sitting on a 1x8 right now because I was told not to leave a battery on a concrete surface... I always thought it was BS, but never had enough money to test the theory!

That's cool, another pun. I've never cooled a tent before but have thought about it. Does the exterior sweat excessively ?

Get a portable ice maker too - nice for Magaritas! Concrete doesn't hurt batteries. What hurts them is stuffing them way up under the floor. That one is the 2st to fail!

I just put a quick fill battery watering system on my three trolling motor batts under the console. I should have done it from day one. I have not maintained my batts like I should because of the difficulty of checking the water level where they are mounted. This system takes all that away. I highly recommend it.
