Don't know what model replacement cartridges you have but if they're Rule cartridges, some have to be seated properly or they will make noise and leak as you described.. If they're like mine, you have to snap them into the pump base and then twist about a 1/4 turn to seat them properly.

You might be right...the housing could be cracked but it sounds like it just isn't seated like it should be to me.. I had the exact same symptoms when I changed out mine.. I didn't have one seated and it leaked and because it wasn't seated right, the impeller was touching the housing and making noise... I remember having to push down hard on it to get it to seat..I think you may even be able to hear a "click" once it's seated right, then twist it to lock it in position..

Poe, I didn't use any sealants on the threads. I just screwed the new one on and attached the livewell hose. Of course since the new pump had an extra hole for installing a washdown pump I "had" to install a washdown pump. That is what I told the wife anyways...
This weekend was really my first test with it. It filled the livewells without a problem and didn't leak down by the thru-hull.
