Hello board.
I'm fixing to buy my Uncle's 1997 Sea Pro 190cc. It's going to be my first boat to personally own, although I've had bass boats and pontoon boats in my family for years. My uncle is getting older, and I went out on a limb and asked him if he wants to keep it in the family. He has a rebuilt 2003 Yamaha 4 stroke on there. I've been out on the boat with him a few times. I like it. More than anything I'm getting a good price for a boat I know has been well maintained, which is always the toughest hurdle in the used boat market.
Anyone have any opinions on these boats? The first thing I want to do is take out the captains chairs and buy a decent leaning post.
I plan on using this boat mainly at our lake house(big freshwater lake in Texas - Lake Sam Rayburn), and then the bay would be secondary. Anyone know how it'll do on the lake as compared to the bay/off shore?
As far as first boats come, this is probably better than I deserve. But I really think it's a great first boat.
Thoughts? Advice? Hellos? Whatever. Glad to be here. Hope I'll be around for a while.

Welcome aboard. Yeah, it's a great boat and if the lakes in TX are anything like they are here in GA, You'll enjoy slicing through those wakes rather than getting beat to death. Before deciding to change stuff up, I'd recommend using it a few times and note what you like and don't like and make a priority list.

WELCOME ABOARD! It will be a great first boat... they're built tough.. I'm jealous, my first boat was closer to a cardboard box and a 2 x 4 paddle.

Congratulations and welcome. These guys are great. Nice first boat. My first boat was a plywood fish ski that had a tendency to sink on occasion! You're gonna love it. The cc floats really high for a boat of its size and weight. Great for the lake or coast.

Welcome aboard. Our first family boat was an Astroglass bass boat in 1971. It went 43mph, which was fun at the time! My personal 1st boat was a 1977 Reninell 18' Bowrider with the old Mercury 6-cylinder 110HP "Tower of Power". Great ski boat.

Thanks all. I was going to purchase next week, but apparently I might be doing it this weekend instead. I will post some pictures of it when it's officially in my name.

Welcome! I have a 2001 190cc and love it. I run it mostly in a couple different lakes near Charlotte. I also take it with me on vacation to the Outer Banks every year and fish the Pamlico Sound and nearshore on bluebird days. It has more than exceeded my expectations for handling rough water. It should serve you well.

Just wanted to give an update since it's been a while. Made the purchase at the end of October. Ran like a champ the first time out, then had issues with it starting for a while.
Since my uncle has had it sitting for a long time, and it has not run very much the last 2 or 3 years due to his medical problems, we took it to our local yamaha dealer, and they have a Yamaha master tech there. Before taking it, I did basically everything I could think of(Spark plugs, new fuel filter, new fuel hose, cleaned battery terminals, etc.)
Nothing major at all. Just a really badly clogged VST, and then he serviced it, re-calibrated the idle and it's back to top notch.
It has been too damn cold down here in Texas since I've had the boat to really do much with it, but I'm ready to give it some work in both fresh and salt water this spring and summer.
Happy I made the purchase, and I can't wait to get out there!

Great! I'm glad it wasn't anything serious. Sometimes the worst thing for a boat is NOT using it.

Ahh the infamous VST filter, just canged mine yesterday. I think I'll make it an anual chore. I's an easy job to do yourself.

He's apparently 1 of only a handful of Yamaha Master Tech's in Texas, and he happens to work at the place closest to our lake house where I'm currently keeping it, so a bit lucky there. And he told me as much. Make it a yearly thing, clean it out yourself, and you'll be fine.

I have owned a 180 CC for the past 17 years with a 115 Yamaha on it, mine has been a great boat with no problems. I keep mine indoors (garaged) and do my regular maintenance on both boat, and motor.Purchased the boat new and it has been a good boat. I use mine in both fresh and salt water...I'm sure you will be happy with your Sea-Pro.

Highly recommend taking a Power Squadron boating course. If possible have wife and older kids take it with you. Helps a lot on the learning curve and prevent some mistakes learned the hard way though "experience".
Buddy had this boat for about 10 years and very versatile for both lakes and inshore/near shore.
Enjoy!

Welcome aboard! I haven't been a SP owner as long as some on here but for that last six years has been AWESOME I haven't felt safer that I have been on any other boat I have owned.
