Had the Holy hell scared out of me yesterday. It was time to change my water pumps in my 200's, so removed all the bolts and speedo line dropped the lower unit out carried it over to my work bench and looked back at my engine and there was oil running out of the engine!!!!. NOTHING IN THE MANUAL about oil leaking during the change. (First time for me changing on the 4strokes) after replacing the pump put the unit back in and it stopped. Made a call to my Merc tech and he told me that was normal the shaft makes the seal up in the powerhead. I also found out if you lower the engine all the way down after removing the lower unit, it will not leak.

Yeah, I had read about that at the Verado Owners Group website right after I bought my boat. Lot's of good info that all Verado owners should know on that site. I bet that it did scare the crap out of you at first!

How much do you save by doing it yourself?

It all depends on which shop and there rates. If even a little mechanically incline it dont take much to change. (some shop labor hrs. are pretty steep)
