Hey, It's been a while since I've been on this board, I have a 2007 206 WA that I bought with a Verado 150 last year. Long story but the Engine ended up having issues, Shop that I hired to do pre purchase inspection missed something major....I re-powered with a 2014 Yamaha F200 I4. (LOVE IT!!!) Settled my legal issues with the shop and now I have a very clean, partially disassembled Verado 150 on a skid taking up space in my garage. Motor has about 700 hours, Was used mostly in brackish water. The motor had a very small head gasket leak, Went undiagnosed for a few years apparently and over time caused about a dime sized spot of corrosion/pitting in one cyl. Otherwise this motor is good. Compression was down 30 psi on that cylinder. No other issues besides the head gasket. I think the engine is very re-buildable or has a ton of good parts. Head and supper charger are off. Also the shop did about 1.5k in work before the problem was found. All new belts, hoses, thermo, filters, impellers, trim seals...pretty much everything you could think of to replace is brand new. Also full set of digital controls and all wiring. (no gages)
Hoping you guys can help me come up with a rough Ebay price/minimum bid for this thing. Or other outlet to sell it, Anybody know someone who buys Verado parts motors? I'll list it on here too....but am having trouble figuring out its value..... I don't really have time to part it out, Just need to sell it whole if possible. Plastics, decals and appearance are above average for the year (its a gen1 2006 150 Verado) I guess it has a 25 inch lower since it was factory on my SP 206 WA. Thanks in advance for any advise. By the way....I am located in Southern Ohio.

In the junk (salvage) business, The real money to be made is in parting it out. I would call around the Mercury shops in your area and any marine salvage yards and see what they will give you for it. Do a google search and see what comes back. Remember local is going to be a better sale even if lower offer because shipping is not cheap. In my limited opinion, If you have $1500 in it, I would be happy just to get my money back. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I agree Simple Man. I tried searching "completed sales" on ebay and nothing....some lower units going for 800, cowls for 400 etc...but no whole parts engines have been sold recently...at least not Verados. Called a few places about fixing it and it seems you cant just hone/bore a Verado because common parts are not readily available...like .010 over pistons and rings...I've been told "New powerhead or scrap it" No cheap rebuild kits like you find for a 2 stroke.

Be on the lookout for a deal on a power head. Sell it as a running motor and make a little on it. Or make someone a deal on it as is and let them make the coin if you don't have the time/skill to swap power heads. Find a deal on a boat needing a motor and make even more money on the deal. I have a buddy that does this with cars and boats all the time to supplement his State retirement income.

Yep I'd do it myself but the timing isn't right for me...In a couple years I'll be retired and living down there...grew up in the panhandle and cant wait to get back. I've done that with a few motorcycles and boats in the past but don't have the time and trying to de-clutter our place for that move south in a couple years(or less) Too many projects. Willing to give someone else the opportunity on this one.

Hey, just an update, I posted this motor for sale on EBAY for a fixed price of $2000 and it sold almost instantly. Waiting on the payment to arrive and clear my bank before they come get it. Buyer is paying for a shipping company to come package/crate it and ship it from Ohio to Oregon. It wont leave my garage until the check completely and irreversibly clears my bank. Looks like I could have asked more judging on how quick it sold...with several others contacting saying they wanted it if the sale falls thru for some reason. I researched the buyer and he is a real person in Oregon with a real job etc....One guy offered 1200 for the ECU alone.
I did find a little shop in Kentucky (independent guy) who said he found "Sleeves" for the cylinders but only factory pistons and rings. I had him lined up to rebuild the engine but decided at the last minute to list it on EBAY just to see if I could get 2k...my tipping point before fussing with a risky rebuild.
