Greetings all. I could use a bit of help on a speedometer that suddenly stopped working. Operated fine last week; not working when I took it out over the weekend. The boat is a 2000 Sea Pro 210 CC with a 150 Yahama 2 stroke with a factory mounter speedometer in the gauge cluster. I did a search and found the culprit is most likely a wiring issue ( bad connection or blown fuse) or an issue with the sending unit. Am I correct that the sending unit in my boat is a pitot tube connected via a tube directly to the speedometer and it's mounted somewhere in the engine lower unit? I also read there may be debris in the intake; where exactly is the intake on the lower unit and how can I clean it out? Does it need to be backflushed all the way back from the speedometer fitting? Can it be cleaned with a pipe cleaner or will this just push debris deeper into the intake? Is one problem (wiring vs. sending unit) more likely than the other? Any advice on how to troubleshoot this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

Sounds like you've done your homework.... 99.9% of the time it's just debris in the pick up hole caused by running over a stick or something the last time you used it.. Twisting a small drill bit into the pick up hole will remove the debris. You can see the location of the hole in the picture.

You can also take tube loose behind gauge blow some compressed air through the line as well to check for air leaks and it can also maybe blow gunk out of pinhole. This might work on something soft like sea weed or mud but probably won't work if there's apiece of wood lodged in there... and be careful if you attempt this and don't use very much air pressure. There's at least one and maybe more splices in the tubing between the speedometer and the pick up hole where it's held together with a small plastic insert and too much pressure will blow the tubing apart and then you will have a leak.

And sometimes it is as simple as the tube slipped off a fitting. Follow the tube and check where it connects to engine.

Mine is manual and is a pitot tube on the transom starboard side. debris gets in there too and a paper clip or similar device usually gets it cleaned out.

Thank you all for your input. I'll let you know how I make out when I get back to the dock on Saturday to repair it.

Have a similar issue with my 2004 220WA with a Johnson 175. Speedo stopped working. Do you think its similar set up to this and look for the intake? I did notice moisture has gotten inside of the speedometer a couple of times. The VHF is mounted above it and I believe that has let excessive moisture behind gauge cluster. Only the speedo showed some moisture bubbles a couple mornings but later in day it cleared up. I was planning on removing the panel and connect/reconnect each connector as well. Other thoughts?

If there's been a lot of moisture in the gauge for a long time, the gauge might be the problem but 99% of the time it's nothing more than trash in the pick up hole on the lower unit. Try a small drill bit to remove the trash.

Any ideas on replacing these? Is there the same brand/model available amd we can take it apart to swap the sea pro label/face plate

Designing an intuitive and user-friendly interface for healthcare professionals is essential. Investing in UI/UX design and user testing can enhance the user experience but may contribute to the overall cost ehr software development.
