Hey all I'm a new boat owner and newbie here. My problem is this: I bought a 2001 180cc sea pro last fall and according to the last owner (RIP) It had not been run much in the last 5 years. All in all the wrench at the local harbor said he drained and cleaned the gas tank, cleaned the carbs and claimed all was good to go. Well the Yamaha 115 4 stroke runs all over the place. EXAMPLE idles great will not run wide open. Runs like champ mid range won't idle. stalls ect, ect. I am thinking fuel problems?? I'm changing the fuel filter on the motor and putting new spark plugs in for starters. Fuel bulb stays solid when running. Also tank vent looks clean. Help!!!

tek679, Sounds like you need to overhaul the carburetors, I had the same trouble and overhauled mine, now I run the engine at least once a month. You can also drain the carbs if you are not able to run them as my dealer said every 28 days. I have not had to do it but once. Are you sure that the water pump is working, My engine run rough and when I looked back no water was coming out of the port that squirts out at an angle. I did make it back to the dock but I had to replace the water pump. The original one in my engine was plastic and was replaced with a brass one. It came loose right at the plastic.<`)>((((< ED

No carbs on a 4 stroke, possibly the injectors are not spraying properly. They can be sent out and cleaned for about 25$ a piece. When i was having ethanol probe mine were done. Similiar symptons to yours. Replace all the filters, make sure you clean the VST tank and replace the VST filter too.

Like I said I'm new to this boat thing. It's a 2 stroke my bad I feel like a tool now! Ahh yes the water pump is working fine steady stream with plenty of force. That's the Kicker the wrench charged the last owner 400 bucks to "CLEAN" the carbs! He is the only Yamaha Mech in my area for some many miles. Not so sure I trust him? But I guess you don't go to the gynecologist for vision test either? Will any commercial add in tank cleaner work for this? Is one better than another? My next availability to work on her is Thursday and I plan on trying her out Friday again.

Ok did some study on my own. Question do you need to replace o ring and filter or can you reuse? I'm about 30 miles from parts store and would like to use boat this weekend are they stock or order items?

It is where the high pressure pump sits for a 4 stroke, you will have different arrangement on a 2 stroke. there are mechanical fuel pumps on yours, may need to check as well as the ethanol could deteriorate the rubber diaphrams.

get the related seals and orings, ethanol causes these parts to swell making it a major pita to reassemble.

Picked up the o ring also down loaded the service manual for my engine. I got a ton of good info from that. Will be starting on it tonight after work according to everything I read should take a few hrs as long as I don't run into any stubborn screws or nuts.

FYI, This is the same post I wrote elsewhere. It should help a bit.
I have a 2005 sv2100 as well with a 150hp yamaha. Traced it back to the check valve that is between the tank and the pickup line. I found it was all corroded and the valve was stuck. That fixed most of the issue.
I also found that the fuel was causing issues. For instance, I would get up on plane and be running around 4200RPM and the engine would all of a sudden cut out, but not fully die. (About 1 minute in). This happened to me quite often. Sometimes I barely could get the engine started again. I too found the bulb to be almost empty. Ever since that issue, I always put a fuel additive in with my fuel fillups that cuts out carbon buildup and ethanol issues. Since then, never had an issue with the engine cutting out. It's been almost 2 years now.

Hey thanks, Well as luck would have it we had the best weather in months, perfect boating calm seas fish were hitting like crazy. And I was dead in the water!!! Pain in the a$$ Motor. Well to make a long story shorter took it to another wrench a bit farther down the road and what he told me really pissed me off! The Dirty SOB wrench who was supposed to clean the carbs never did. So my gut feeling about that POS was right. Boat is in the shop all weekend wont be out till wed or Thursday. I learned a good lesson, I'm becoming an experienced boat owner the hard way.

tek679, As I said above, run the motor every 28 days or drain the carbs if you don't want to run it. Just a reminder. <`)>((((< ED
