Y'all might want to inspect yours. Mine disintegrated Saturday covering my key with black melted rubber goo that, unknowingly, I introduced into the ignition switch. I cleaned the key and doused it with Goo B Gone and inserted it into the switch again to draw out the ooze. After a while it came out clean. I let the solvent evaporate and Sunday morning everything worked as it should. Scary though. I know those switches aren't cheap. I'd show a picture of the old one, but, like I said, it disintegrated. Here's what the new one looks like. $4.50 to save a lot of aggravation.

I had a similar issue and it turned out the switch itself was failing, weird things were happening every time I switched it on and of. I do hope yours is just the cover.
