Started out trolling in 60 ft, no hits until the downrigger with a split tail mullet dressed with a black/red islander got nailed in 320 ft. Downrigger was set for 125 ft. Hoped for a wahoo, but ended up with a good size king. While we were clearing the lines a sail came into the spread and BAM, fish on. Nice double with a Sail and a king, 2 people on the boat, chinese fire drill comes to mind. Boated the king, released the sail. Nothing for a while then the rt rigger pops and Mahi on, brought him to the boat, smaller one, 8 lbs, relesed for good karma- have plenty of 'fin in the freezer. Then came in and picked up 1 more nice king in 50 ft. Had several short strikes. Tried deep droppingfor tiles but not far enough south. Dropped on the 327 lump, nada there too. Good day overall. 1/1 on Mahi, 1/1 on sail, 1/1 on bonita, 2/2 on King, 0/4 on mystery fish.

How fast are you trolling. At idle or faster. I bid on yur outriggers on e-bay and we sent a couple of messages to one another. I ran the last time I was trolling at about 10 mph but i had no idea just how fast to troll. My spread was a little close too since I didn't have outriggers at the time. I still don't have them installed. Did you use backer plates on your outrigger mounts? I plan to but am just curious if you did. Thanks for any input that you might offer. ED

I use large fender washers as backing plates, also 5200 for sealeant. I troll anywhere from 4-6 kts. I will adjust my speed throughout the day every hour or so until I get bites. I will troll as high as 9 knts for tuna or wahoo.
BTW- I still have the gunnel and side mounts with elbows.

Thanks for the info Krisis7. Man,I wish I was there, just love a bloody deck. I would like to have one of those chinese fire drills. I went on a charter on the 7th of june and we caught the greenies at the jetties and then on for the amberjack and baracuda. Kept 1 cuda to see how it tastes and 8 amberjacks. released 1 sialfish 69" long and in all we caught right at 30 cudas and 30 amberjacks. Can't believe how you can catch amberjacks that are 1/4" shy of legal. By the way I went out of Fernandina Beach, Fla with Amelia anglers. Will post the pic of the sail if and when I get it from the cell phone.

Is nobody fishing? Thought someone would tell about even the small ones, table fare anyway. We have eaten about half of the fish we caught last month. We blacken them and have fried potatoes and onions with them, really good eating. have it a couple of times a week.My daughter called last night and wanted to go but I am presently having trouble with my left foot, that has me limping.Man, did I ever want to go too.
