2004 Yamaha 90 spits and sputters and then cuts off - but only after it is warm and the idle dies down. The motor always restarts with no problem. Problem was worse prior to changing out winter/storage gas and cleaning the carbs. Once in gear and given a very little bit of gas the motor runs great. Ideas? One neighbor mentioned an item called the "separator" - between gas tank and motor - supposed to take out the water from gas. I have not found it yet or any documentation on it - is there such a thing on this boat setup?
I read the previous string of Yamaha running rough and that sounds a lot like what I have experienced - but now I can't get it to idle when warm.

wamsr, You may have a bad overheat switch on your motor. That is just a guess and don't know but I would check it out. It may be that the carbs are out of rig and need adjusting. just thoughts but something to check. Several of the ones on this forum have had trouble with the pick-up in the tank made of aluminum and corroded. I haven't had that kind of trouble but I will have to check on mine as I can't pump the bulb tight anymore and some people have had trouble with that. Does sound like a fuel problem though. <`)>((((< ED

Sorry so long to update, but had to schedule mechanic. Carbs were soaked in acid bath for 5 days, rebuilt, reinstalled. Motor is working great now. Believe issue was in idle-needle area at top of second carb. Acid bath is only way to clean this factory set area of the carb. Will run carbs dry in off season and/or anytime boat is not being used within 28 days - as stated by others on this site.
