Good morning everyone. I was curious has anyone done the swap from verado to Suzuki and if so what kind of performance have they gained or lost. I know the Zukes are lighter but other than that was curious on the outcome..
Thanks

Don't have any real world data but my money would always be on the Mercury for top end performance.

My Vrods have doing well and love the instant feedback from them. Was just curious if anyone had made the swap?..

I went from Verado to Yamaha and I miss the Vrod. The electric over hydraulic steering, the mid section steering, the shifting, the gauge's, all are better than the Yahmaha with Sea Star. The Yamaha has an extra 75 hp though and horsepower is enough to ease my loss. Don't get me wrong, the Yamaha is a great motor it's just the Verado is still, over ten years later, just much more advanced.

Without a doubt the smart gauges with troll mode is awesome. The only possible way the to make them better in my simple mind is make them lighter!!! They are the heaviest in their class.

They are heavy that's for sure. The Vrods just have a lot of small things that make them "nicer". For instance, Verado has a relay that energizes a bus board so that when you turn the key to "ACC" then power is supplied to the bus. Turn key off, power to bus is off. The wiring harness also has a constant on power source if you need that. Yamaha has nothing like that in the key switch/harness. I now have to kill everything with the main battery switch in the back. Just little things like that.

Yeah, I think so. I mean the Verado was doing everything I needed but I was looking for more horsepower and a newer motor. I was considering getting into guiding at the time and the Verado was starting to show its age. Last thing I wanted was to have a family out on the water and the motor strand me! I got a good deal on the Yahama as the guy had a bunch of new prior year motors and was looking to move them. I got the Yamaha $2,000 cheaper than I could have bought a Suzuki for. The Yamaha runs good it's just not as "sexy" or advanced as the Verado.

Seriously though, I think the pressure of "having" to put people on fish would ruin fishing for me. I have a friend that's a guide and he says he literally gets hisself sick some days worrying about clients catching fish.
