My wife found a great potato soup mix so I modified it to a fish chowder. The mix is Bear Creek Country Kitchens Creamy Potato soup mix, comes in a pouch and makes 8 cups. You bring 8 cups of water to a boil, whisk in the mix and simmer for 15 minutes. I stirred in 4 medium spotted sea trout fillets, cut into 3/4 inch squares after adding the mix and they cooked during the 15 minute simmer. You could also probably do the same using oysters, clams or shrimp. I like mine with a bit of ground black pepper. Enjoy.

That sounds really good and easy to fix. Where did she find the mix?

Juan, She originally found it at the commisary at Hunter Army Airfield here in Savannah but Kroger also carries it. It's super easy and tastes great. I grew up in New England and good chowders were a big thing back then.

Thanks gtinga. I like my chowder too. Grew up in the Florida Keys so my favorite has always been conch chowder but I've tried and like clam and oyster too. Never tried fish chowder but it has to be good. The closest commissary is 30 miles away at Fort Rucker and we don't have Krogers but I'll be checking Publix, Winn Dixie and WalMart for the Bear Creek mix.

Trying some tonight. The wife isn't sure the fish will be fully cooked. We shall see.

Hope you enjoyed it. The 15 minute simmer cooked my fish quite nicely, cooked thru but not mushy. I also found the mix in the grocery section of our Walmart at the best price I've seen, a bit less than $3.00 for the 8 serving family size.

It was good and the fish was cooked just right. Had another bowl for lunch today. I like it with the fish but I think I'll like it better with shrimp. Gonna try that next. Thanks for the recipe . notworthy

Glad you enjoyed it. It's supersimple and quick. My wife had to beat me about the head and shoulders to make me stop after three bowels. Agreed, shrimp is next and maybe oysters or clams after that, all sorts of options. Best.

My wife had to beat me about the head and shoulders to make me stop after three bowels. I know that's a typo but it's hilarious. rofl I cheated today... instead of making more fish chowder, we went to Golden Coral and had some of their clam chowder. Good stuff!

Man I messed up on that one! Best part is it sorta makes sense, but hey I didn't get that nasty red line under the typo so I just kept going. It can get a little weird when you spell phonetically and speak Brooklynese. Have a god one!
