Was out last weekend in my 206CC. I have a 150 Verado on there. We were running all over Lake Erie. Went out further than I ever have before on the big lake since it was very calm. Then my neighbor who was with me said the words that you shouldn't say in that situation. "Man, this thing is running great." Sure enough we stop to check the fish finder. When I went to move again, the engine just shuttered and I couldn't get back onto plane. Thought I might have gotten something wrapped around the prop the way it was acting. Checked and it was clear. I was able to slowly increase the throttle to overcome the shuttering, but couldn't get onto plane until my neighbor moved to the front of the boat. The weight shift was just enough to allow it to come onto plane and then I built RPM's and we were off. We were able to get back to the harbor, but it's running really rough at idle. Did some research and I'm thinking one of my pencil coils may have gone bad. I spend a lot of time at idle coming through the harbor and from what I read, that's hard on the coils. And I guess those are kind of prone to failure. Might be a fuel issue since I haven't been out much this season and I'm still burning off the fuel from last fall, but based on the chain of events I'm thinking that is less likely than the coil issue.
Figured I'd throw this out there to see if anyone had an opinion or experienced a similar issue. When coming up onto plane at full throttle, I can only turn a little over 3000 RPM's which is short of what I need to pop onto plane. Once I got onto plane I was running at about 45-4600 on the way back without any problem. So it seems like right now I have limited power out of the motor.
