I'm back from a year and a half hiatus, been sick as hell and unable to fish or take the boat out, and it has sat the whole time...Problem: After the boat sat I went and changed the old fuel for new, drained and replaced with fresh, boat started up fine and idled fine, but when I put the boat in the water it would idle but when I tried to give it power to put it on plane it would bog down, couldn't get more than 2000 rpm, went back cleaned carbs floats and jets, took it out again and still have the same problem, it feels like it's starved for gas, sometimes it feels like it wants to go ,but only for a split second, then bogs down again, to nothing greater than 2000 rpm primer ball does not lose pressure when this occurs and seems to be working fine..Anyone else ever encounter this problem, at this point I don't want to just start changing parts out without knowing what I might be dealing with, I have thought maybe fuel pump, but I'm not sure..Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks folks...It's good to be back, even if my cherished boat is giving me fits. On the bright side, my Harley that is 15 year old started right up and ran well..How's it going Juan..

Hey old man! Great to see ya back and sorry to hear you were under the weather for so long. Could you have a fuel water separator or inline filter that might be blocked?

Don't have any suggestions for your motor problem but it's good to hear you're back in action.

OK, here's what's happening..Checked fuel delivery, from fuel tank to water fuel separator filter, through hoses into primer bulb, into engine filter (under cowling) through fuel pump into carbs, all good to that point..Checked all electrical components, ignition, coils, plugs, wires, compression, all good...Went to a mechanic I have used in the past, and took him on the boat, so he could see what was going on, same problem with him on board, he did a couple of checks, that I had already done...He tells me I was on the right track with the carbs, but that I should have completely rebuilt them instead of just trying to clean them out..so, I ordered total rebuild kits for both carbs, seals, floats, pins, valves, seats, gaskets, the whole shebang..I should have the parts on Mon, or Tues, everything else has been checked, this is all that's left, I hope this is it...We shall see...

I'm betting he's right and with a carb rebuild you'll be back up and running. My old grand pappy used to say any motor requires only three things to run... Air, Fuel and Spark. The "spark" got me thinking... could it be a coil getting weak?

Just dropped the boat off at the shop, I decided to let the mechanic handle the rebuild on the carbs. I hope this does the trick, I am tired of being land locked, going stir-crazy over here. Gotta be out in the ocean or in the everglades, either one is fine with me. Today is the first day of lobster mini season, so that makes it a little easier to have the boat in the shop, I really have no desire to be out on the water with the drunks. Some of you know that I fish and what-not during the week, never on a weekend or especially a Holiday, too dang crazy out there on those days, this is South Florida and it just isn't worth the aggravation....Any ways, I'll let you folks know how this turns out when I take the boat out, possibly Friday....Hey Juan, do you miss being down here for mini season..I'll bet you don't..

LOL... mini season. 021 Yeah, I miss it like I would miss a case of the black clap!! We have the same philosophy about fishing on weekends and holidays. Too bad you don't live close by...I'm wanting to get back out there too. Hope the carb rebuild fixes the problem.

LOL, I hear you, spoken like a true Conch. Everybody who lives in the Keys for the most part hate the crap out of it. The main-landers invade the islands and turn it into a circus , with the heavy traffic and everyone trying to get somewhere in a hurry, you know how laid back it is down there when it is mostly just the locals. I had no idea you were down, sorry to hear that, boat issues, or just not enough time? Picked up my boat from the shop early this afternoon, in the middle of a rainstorm, it's sitting in my garage right now, waiting, I think Friday I will take it out and see how it does, hopefully I'll be able to wet a line or two, fingers crossed. Hey, just wondering, did anybody ever mount those outriggers that we all bought for $35.00 a while back, that was a good deal..haha.. Tight lines all...Later.

Funny you should mention that, I put a new canvas on the T Top and never did refit the outrigger mounts. I just got these fishmaster.com/outrigger-holders-pair.html to clamp on and use them that way.

I thought the outriggers were a good deal at the time but I decided not to mount them and now I can't even give them away.

The only thing I didn't like about the outriggers was that on my boat, I could not mount them without having to cut a hole for the pole holders...Maybe one day I'll get the guts to cut a hole into the gunnels, but for now they're still in the box sitting in my garage.

Thanks for the link Phil..I wonder if they make them that will fit 1' tubing?..Those look really good. Doesn't look like it but I'm sure with a little ingenuity you could make something to make it work with the listed inserts, you'd probably only need another 1/8th ".
