Hi, I have a 2003 Yamaha OX66 200 HP model # SX200TXRB, serial # 6G6 X 007973. It has been sitting for a week and 1/2 unused. Last time it was run there were no problems. When I started the motor at the dock yesterday it smoked pretty heavy out the exhaust ports. It’s never done that before. Once it warmed up it smoked less. It also smoked underway. I noticed that when I stopped and shut the motor down for a time, on startup it smoked heavy for a minute and then the smoke lessened. The motor ran fine, no sputtering or stalling, no warnings, idled smoothly, it reached WOT RPM with no problems. There is no oil pressure gauge on the boat and I don’t have a way to check it so I’ll bring it to a mechanic for that. I was told that there is a clip on the rod that connects the fuel and oil inputs to regulate the amount of oil. That the clip can corrode and if it breaks will cause excess oil to be injected. The photo shows where I guessed the clip to be. If so, they look fine to me. Can someone verify if the photo does show that clip? Also, what else should I be looking at? Doubt it makes a difference but it was run all season in salt water, flushed after each use. Yesterday was the first time in fresh water. Thanks, George

Could be but doesn't sound like a mechanical problem within the motor, (busted piston ring, etc) and too much oil is better than not enough but to trouble shoot, I'd disconnect the oil injection pump and mix oil with the fuel manually. If it stops smoking, you can keep mixing your fuel 50:1. A lot of folks that have oil injection problems and some that just don't trust the injection system will disconnect it before there's ever an issue.
I used to have an OX66 250 and if I remember correctly, it has an alarm that will sound if the oil pressure drops to an unsafe level and the engine will go into "safe" mode where it won't exceed a few hundred rpms... so since your's is running as normal I think your oil pressure is okay.

No that picture is not the oil connector rod, you'll find that on the other side of the engine.

Did you change brands of oil? Some smoke more than others.

Had the boat out on the river today. Motor ran great, no smoking at all. None on start up, none while running or aafter sitting. Ran at WOT for about 20 minutes. Dont know why it smoked the last time out, which was the one and onlky tinme it ever blew any smoke.

Good news! I've been told I'm crazy, but I've had problems fix themselves too.

They call them "2 smokes" for a reason! I'd get nervous if a two cycle I owned didn't smoke!
