I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 2019 Sea Pro 208 with a Mercury 150 4 stroke. The salesmen is trying to talk me into upgrading to the 200HP. I don't feel like its worth the $6000. From the looks of the performance bulletins on the 150, top speed is 45 and the sweet spot is 24mph @ 3500 RPMs. The salesman said i'd probably get around 37 top speed with the 150. Not sure how true that is or if hes just trying to up sell me. I can't find the performance bulletin for the 200 Mercury.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone has the 208 with the 150 and what are the actual performance spec they are getting. Are you satisfied with the 150?

I can't say for sure since the 208 is 2" shorter in beam width, 2" longer in total length, holds 8 gallons more fuel and is about 400 lbs heavier than an SV2100 but I'd guess the performance data is close if not right on and you'll get close to the 45 mph with the 150 but that depends on a lot of variables, ie: total loaded weight, proper set up, weather conditions, etc. If it were me, I'd spend the $6,000 upgrade expense on add ons like a new trolling motor, electronics, trim tabs, etc.

I had a 206 CC with a 150 Verado. Weight of that boat is close, and it carried an extra 10 gallons of fuel. With the original Mirage plus 17P propeller I got about 42MPH at WOT. I switched to a 4 blade 19P prop and top speed dropped to around 38-39. That cruising speed sounds about right. So my guess would be a top speed of 40 plus or minus a few MPH depending on the prop. The salesman probably isn't off by much. I'm assuming the model you are looking at has the newer 150 Mercury 4 stroke. That is a bit different than the Verado, so there might be some difference based on that. I would think it wouldn't matter to much though.
A 150 should push that boat just fine. I'm with Juan, spend the $6k on other upgrades.

jamesgarrett is a member here and has a 208, he see's right at 50 Mph with his Suzuki 200. I'd expect similar with the Mercury, that being said I'd expect around 45 with the 150. PM James for his opinions on the 208, nice guy and I'm sure he'll be willing to help. He's selling his if your looking for a good deal.

Im not sure if this is something your willing to consider, but, Great Lakes Skipper has a brand new, 2016 model, Mercury 175 Pro XS 2 stroke long shaft for sale at $12,099.00. Thats a hell of a deal. If your boat dealer is willing to let you buy the motor and have it shipped to him for him to hang and plumb up, you could save some dough and be at 175 horses. www.greatlakesskipper.com/mercury-boat-outboard-motor-1175p83ey-175-hp-pro-xs-175xl-pxs-25

I've got the 208 with a 175 suzuki and it tops out in the mid 40 range with full tank and crew. 200 would be nice but you could add a lot of toys on the boat for 6000. My boat planes quickly but thought it would be a little faster. Would like to know what you went with and what speed your getting. Enjoy your boat I do.

I have a 2002 SV 2100 Tournament series and it has Yamaha 150, it will Run 48 mph with 3 batteries and about 30 gal of fuel. That sales guy is full of crap, buy it and add a 4" Jack Plate and a good SS Prop and you be running in mid 40's I'd be will to bet on it!

I have a 2018 208 with a 200 Zuk, I rarely see 50. I have to be by myself with the wind and current in my favor, and turn 5800. I top at 6100 but I can’t stand to hear that! My cruise is about 28 to 32 at 3200. If I have 4 adults aboard, 42 is what I expect to see top end, and they’re gonna get wet if there is any chop at all.
