I hope I can explain this so it makes sense. I snapped off the speedometer hose nipple on the lower unit. Apparently I’m not the first. The Yamaha replacement part is much larger than what broke off. Apparently it was previously broken and, rather than a proper repair, the screwed in base of the nipple was not removed from the lower unit. Instead, a hose barb was pushed into the hole of the broken base and a smaller hose was used. I think they replaced the hose coming out of the upper unit because that is also a smaller hose. I’m wondering if, originally, the larger hose ran all the way to the speedometer and whoever did the last repair removed it all and replaced it with the smaller hose. So, now I don’t know what the proper solution is. I can screw in the new nipple, the white part, but I need to get a larger hose to fit the nipple. That means that the new larger hose won’t fit the hose coming from the upper unit. Anyone with this engine know what the factory configuration is for this hose? Does the larger hose run all the way to the speedo or does it get reduced along the way? Thanks

Why bother they are very inaccurate and prone to clogging. I changed out the "Speedo" with a voltmeter and put a hour meter in the voltmeter gauge hole. Your phones gps will give you a more accurate speed measurement. I use my chartplotter/fishfinder for speed metering in the controlled areas, though most of those are just no wake. But to fix you should just go via OME . Change the diameter of stuff and you change the pressure/volume there for "reliability" of accuracy of the speedo. When I replaced the head on my 2002 yamaha 150 I just capped it off. Get the part numbers and hit up ebay. The full manual with parts #'s are available online.
