Hi all! I had been looking at buying a Rod Pod for our fishing travels, but was hesitant to pay $750 or so for one. I ended up building one myself out of 6in pvc, bedliner spray paint, and conduit caps for the ends (one of which accepts a pad lock). All in, I spent under $100 or so. Figured I’d share in case anyone had considered purchasing one...

Nice looking job. What did you use for mounting brackets? Did you do anything on the inside to cushion the rods? What diameter and schedule pipe did you use and how many rods will it hold? Where did you find a lockable cap?

Very cool. If I had a pickup truck, I'd be building one of those. Ditto all of Tiger's questions and how did you paint PVC?

Thanks for the feedback! The caps and brackets are from a Reese Conduitt Carrier kit, that was the most expensive part ($50 or so). The tube holds 4 Spinning Rods or 6-7 Bait Casters. I did not coat the inside with anything for protection, but I do wrap the reels with a micro fiber cloth when I put them in. I've been getting a lot of compliments, especially in the Cabela's parking lot! I may need to think about starting a side business!

Thanks for the info paddykel. I'm very tempted to build one for my truck. The number of rods it will hold surprised me. I painted a gun stock with that spray on bedliner. Good stuff.

Slick outfit. The stickers really set it off. Need to print up your own if you decide to produce them. Does your insurance cover the rods carrier ? I had tool boxes stolen from my f150 bed and no coverage. That's when I started driving vans.
