Had all intentions of heading out to Calcasieu last weekend but SE Texas and SW Louisiana got pummeled with rain from Imelda. So we ran down to Matagorda Bay.
First 2 days were spent fishing the main bay west shoreline and Powderhorn Lake. We caught several undersized trout and a couple rat reds along with a ton of hard heads. Powderhorn is crazy shallow, so if you decide to fish it, I’d recommend going in at high tide and getting out before the tide drops to much.
Day 3 we trailered down to POC. The winds were 20 gusting 28 with 3+ ft swells. The boat ride was doable but not comfortable. Mainly fished the intracoastel due to the shallow water and wind protection. Hooked up with a bunch of reds with all being to small except 1 22 incher.
We fished and crabbed (blue crabs) off the pier at our Airbnb every evening. Did pretty well catching crabs on raw chicken legs tied in nets. Also caught a small hammerhead on gulp under a popping cork.
I’m undecided on whether I’d fish down there again without having a flats boat. I’m sure the fishing is great if you can get shallow enough to get around.

Sounds like you had a good time. emthup I fished the intercoastal on the west side of Panama City's west bay yesterday and didn't do nearly as well as you did. One small trout inside the canal. I think it's still too hot (water temp was 85 degrees) for the fish to be inside the intercoastal in numbers but if it ever cools off....look out!
