My fishing mentor uses these little 6-foot, 1-piece rods with Shimano 1000 reels. They look like toys they are so small. If they had Zebco reels on them I'd swear they were purchased for children.
That being said, I used one one day and it was amazing. It was like a stethoscope for feeling the bottom (twisted analogy, I know)and I could feel anything that came in contact with my lure. I know how and why he catches so many trout. I'm going out with him again soon and want to bring my own "Toy Rod" to be the equalizer in our friendly fishing competing between Master and Grasshopper.
I just ordered a Sharky III 1000. What are y'all's favorite trout rods (Brand, length, power, action)?

I've got two similar "short" rods except mine are 6'6" with Pflueger Trion reels. They're light weight, fun to use for 12" - 15" fish and I'll throw them in the boat when the wife is going with me but they aren't what I want in my hand when a redfish or gator trout comes along. I usually take 3 rods with me.. All are 7'6"Field & Stream Litus Inshore rods. Medium Light, Extra Fast. 2 have Shimano Stradic 2500s and the other a Sharky II and I can feel it when a pine needle gets on my lure.

Cannot find that rod. How long have you had them? They're probably discontinued. Looks like Dick's is the only place that brand is sold. I may have to go see Dick.

I think I bought them about two years ago and they probably are discontinued since they were priced about 1/3 their regular price. I probably should have bought an extra or two.. they're my favorite rods.

Story of my life, a day late and a dollar short. Gotta wonder why they DC’d that model if it is as terrific as you say. Sounds perfect and probably more Beefy than you think.

My wife's rod is my favorite. It's a 7' med action Connely inshore paired with a quantum smoke 3000. I liked it so much I bought a "manly" med/heavy version with a 4000 that I can't stand. I should have cut back on the testosterone and stuck with a good thing. It is great on redfish tho...

Thanks Simple Man! That sounds like it will fit the bill and Academy may even have them in stock. I'll give it a try and let you know how it works out.

So, I followed Simple Man's suggestion and found an All Star Classic rod that meet the criteria and put my new Sharky III 1000 on it. My first fish was not a trout, but this bruiser who measured 29 inches and weighed well over 10 pounds. I thought my new rod was going to break, but it held up. I was amazed at the drag my tiny real produced. This guy ran 4 times before he was tired enough to net. Talk about catching excitement! Thanks Simple Man
