So I passed a really fine new boat (decked to the gills) on the highway last Saturday. My buddy who was behind me by a few minutes calls and says, "Hey, did you see that brand new somekindofboat?"
"Yes", I replied.
"Well I just watched him pull over because he was driving with his trolling motor deployed and the skeg dragging down the road", was his message.
I'm guessing he's got one of those Ulterras and he didn't unplug it and/or left the remote in his pocket or something and accidentally deployed it en route. I can say for sure that it was not deployed when I passed him.
Appears to be a rather expensive mistake and a permanent DA label. Be careful out there.

Yikes! I guess it could happen that's why I always turn the power off to mine after trailering the boat but he would have had to hit the deploy button on the remote twice before it would deploy and the remote turns off after 30 minutes of not being used so he must have recently trailered his boat. I've often wondered if some other signal like from a radar detector or garage door opener could deploy one if the power was left on. One of my buddies tried to copy the Ulterra TV commercial once. He was alone, unhooked and launched his boat off the trailer without a rope tied to it and planned to deploy the trolling motor from shore and have his boat meet him at the dock... He forgot to turn the power on to thee trolling motor and had to swim to retrieve his boat. rofl

He must have had the 72" shaft to go below the trailer and drag the ground. I'm sure he was hoping no one saw it happen.

Have seen this with a power pole being deployed when driving away from ramp. Suspect it was caused by a butt push or some dick with a remote . I started switching power off on my talons as part of packing up the boat after seeing that. Asked the Minn Kota rep at boat show about frequencies used and he didn't know and never got back to me...

Asked the Minn Kota rep at boat show about frequencies used and he didn't know and never got back to me... I'd like to know that too. I don't know how many frequencies Power Pole uses but I do know they aren't all the same and each remote has to be programmed to the onboard control board. The more I think about the Ulterra deploying while on the trailer, the more I wonder if crab's friend saw what he thought he saw. The power would have had to left on, he would have had to have the remote in his pocket and the deploy button on the remote would have had to be pushed two times within a couple of seconds to get the motor to deploy, and then the trim would have had to set at the lowest point to have the motor go all the way down,,,and even then it's hard to believe a boat on a trailer could be low enough to the ground where the shaft would hit the ground. I guess it's possible, but I'd have to see it to believe it.
