I'm always open to new ideas and recently mosquito13 posted a report about using a small piece of red yarn attached to his hooks as an added attractant. This sounded like a great idea and the best invention since toilet paper so I decided to give it a try on the trout for my last fishing day of 2019. I bought a ball of red yarn, (probably 2 miles of the stuff) cut about two dozen 3" and 4" strips, put em in a baggie and soaked them in Pro Cure mullet scent for a week. The good: The yarn looks good in the water and has got to look like a blood trail to the fish. It stays on the hook and retained the mullet scent almost all day. The bad: I didn't get a single bite with the yarn tipped lures. but did manage 6 dink trout on plain old swimbaits. The rest of the story: The wind was blowing at least 15 to 20 and it was the lowest tide I've ever seen. Areas that are normally 5 feet deep at low tide were less than 2 feet today. We also had a two inch downpour last night and the little water that was there was badly stained. I still think the yarn idea will work and I will be trying it again next year. The Moral of the story: If the fish aren't there, it doesn't matter what you throw at them. 239_fishing HAPPY NEW YEAR P.S. Thought you'd appreciate the emojis skeeter. rofl

How’d that yarn smell after soaking in mullet juice for a week?

Never used scent on the yarn, but why not. I only use the yarn on my gold Johnson weedless spoons when targeting reds(our water has a lot of tannins). Will add stink to em next time, should help as redfish like strong smelling stuff/cut bait. Half the fun of fishing is figuring out how to outsmart the fish. The string and the guard mod to the Johnson spoon both came from two brothers that used to fish the red fish tournament circuit in the early 2000's. Always amazed how free fishermen are with sharing what works. Try talking to a winning racer at the track about their set ups and get ready for a awkward silence. www.johnsonfishing.com/johnson-hard-bait/johnson-silver-minnow/1447402.htmlThe how to's on your Johnson : www.saltstrong.com/articles/weedless-spoon-fishing/
